The story of Joseph, from the time he was 17 to the time he was second to Pharaoh. I highly recommend this story especially for children because so many children can identify with it, and secretly everything we need to know about Jesus is paralleled in this story (well, much is anyway). Joseph begins as a yongster who is not liked by most of his brothers because they are gealous that his father loves him so much, also as Rachel was favored. So they nearly kill him but then they sell him to merchants who deliver him to Egypt. There is is wrongly accused and put into prison, and becomes head of the prisioners. Time does not permit me to go into most details, but then Joseph is found to be able to interpret the Pharaohs dream and he is made second to Pharaoh and is taken throughout all the land of Egypt. It gets very interesting when his brothers come to get food from Pharaoh and they can not recognize Joseph, so Joseph messes with them, and they are greatly fearful being accused of stealing Josephs gold cup, ect... (long story); I cry every time I come to a few points in this story. Certainly one of the greatest stories ever written, and one of the oldest. I believe other stories have been patterned after this one. See book of Genesis.

First of all, promote children with faith. The Bible has no STORIES. It is a history book. We shoot ourselves in the foot by saying, "Come kids let's learn about the story of Noah." Then we show them that stupid little ark with animals bursting out that would sink in less than a split second. How is that supposed to strengthen their faith. Show them pictures of what the real ark looked like, give them the amount of animals that were really on the ark... NO insects...only animals with the breath of life in their nostrils... No fish either... that's a no brainer. Don't teach that it just rained 40 days and nights, remember the fountains of the deep breaking open. Show them the geologic layers all over the earth (sedimentary rock =used to be mud) laid down by water all over the earth.
This will not only teach them but strengthen their faith. See the site below for some excellent school books teaching true history

For some reason the story of Solomon with the baby and the two women claiming they were the mother always interested me when I was a child. I don't know if it was because I was creeped out because he was going to cut the baby in half or because I wanted kids but I always read that part in my kiddy bible book. My mom taught a class on David and Goliath and drew a life size-ish picture of Goliath so the kids could see how tall he would be.

When I was a child, I read revelation because I thought it was the most relevant to current times.
But I don't know that the standard child would be able to appreciate it; I always liked that chapters that dealt with angels and the various services the performed for god. I think that in order to have an understanding of a creator, we should look at some of his other creations.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego

AKA(by a famous preacher I once heard)

My shack, Your shack and to-bed-we-go

You could do a skit with a Nebuchadnezzar, and the three guys and a guard and show the guard getting overcome by the flames and then the angel/Christ person joins the three in the fiery furnace and delivers them- King Neb is amazed and falls down to worship!

David and Goliath is always good, it shows that even the little guy(perfect for kids), as long as they've got God can do anything.
