They need a nest box and nesting material. You can buy or make this stuff. Keep both parents in the cage to care for the chicks. Just make sure they have enough food and maybe some vitamins. Don't let anybody or any animal scare the female, or she may lay an egg prematurely and it will break. Parent birds can be very protective of the nest and chicks; I mean they may bite. Don't take it personally. They will take care of the chicks, you just have to take care of the parents. When the chicks are old enough to fly and eat alone, they can leave the parents. It is good to handle them so they get used to people.

It is normal for the male love bird to stay inside the nest box. He wont do any harm. Love birds are very affectionate and maternal to their babies. Even male birds will feed the babies. Leave them alone and watch the egg hatch in araound 21 days. However, it is my experience that a single egg in a batch normally is unfertilized. Remove the egg after around 24 days if it doesn't hatch yet.

leave them in their. they mate for life and stay with that bird unless the other dies. even though you can tame them, they will along with the offspring always have you second. they are very good parents. any bird you get, if its just one, you can tame them easier, but once a mate is introduced. they will pay more attention to the mates. i had a friend that had a african grey. very expensive birds. 5 grand each. she taught it to talk and was very friendly and tame. she bought a mate and they stopped talking, became less tame as they spend more time with their mates. its best after the babies are born and close to flying the nest age not to pick them up as some will smell your scent and ignore the babies. give them equal time even if they both fly out of the cage to you. if you give one more attention than the other, they will fight and compete for your attention. at night or even during some times during the day, keep the cage covered as they feel more secure and it keeps drafts from the ac off of them.

leave the male in the cage. they love boiled egg crushed with some shell still in it. they also love fresh fruit and vegetables. especially after babies hatch. my love birds didnt like me in the cage, but if I opened the cage door they would come sit on me and visit. I would lock them out of the nest box sometimes and hold the babies daily and they got real tame. I love, love birds. Take care and have a good time with your birds.
