I've been to both Mongolia and Inner Mongolia (one of my best friends is from Inner Mongolia).

- I remember arriving after being on a train from Beijing for almost 2 days. In my life I've never quite experienced anything else like it. When in the grasslands, the first thing that hit me was how vast and strikingly blue the sky was, it was like standing in a sea of green, you could see all manner of clouds rushing across the horizon.

- During the nights the stars were beautiful.

- Mongolian barbeques are really impressive - especially if you like eating lamb, in fact all of the dishes I tried there were wonderful.

- My friend told me of how much respect the mongolians have of the horses they ride.

Mongolia is great! Some of the nicest people I have ever encountered. They speak Mongolian, which is a fun language to listen to. It kinda sounds like a mixture of Korean and Russian. The are a very varied people, with skin as dark or as light as you can imagine, and wide range of eye shapes.

About half the people live in the capital Ulaanbaatar. The other half still live a simple, nomadic lifestyle on the countryside. Right now is the biggest festival of the year, Naadam (July 12-15). It is a competition of wrestling (Mongol style), Archery, and Horseriding. They are also celebrating the 800th anniversary of Chinggis (Gheingis in the west) Khan's unification of the country.

The northern part of the country is like Montana: green, forested mountains. The southern part is the Gobi, dry and desolate.

Used be called Outer Mongolia, but now just Mongolia. Located for the most part in the Gobi desert. I'm right next door just now in Inner Mongolia (a part of China) whereas Mongolia is a country in its own right.

Capital is Ulaan Bataar, sparsely populated, located between Russia and China, flag red and blue with that design in gold, they were a powerful empire about seven hundred years ago under Kublai Khan, that's about it off the top of my head.
