my cat refuses to be held, no matter how comfortable or gently, for more than 3 seconds before going crazy and trying to get down while meowing a lot. how can i ease my cat into letting me hold her, so that she can enjoy the experience without being scared?

My cats don't like to be held either, however, they love to sit on my lap and let me comb and pat them. I once put on a harness to one of my cat when he's around one year old hoping that I could leash him, but he got so scared and lied still, dared not to move. So I respected their feeling and never try again.

I have three cats and they all hate to be held. Some cats just don't like to be held. I am sure you could get her to come sit on your lap.

The main thing is not to force her into it. If you insist on teaching her to be held, do it little by little. Hold her for a minute, then let her go. Before she starts to squirm and get upset about it. Slowly increase the amount of time you hold her. Hopefully she will start to see that you are not trying to restrain her and allow you to hold her for an amount of time that you both can live with!

there's a idea that some kittens/cats do not prefer to be held because they experience trapped. I followed 2 sisters very last August and had a similar difficulty ensue. After giving them time to regulate to me, i began choosing up the squirmy one two times an afternoon yet putting her excellent decrease backpedal so she'd study that she wasn't trapped. Now she's a lap cat. I guess in case you try this and delivers her some time, she'll come round. solid success!

Believe it or not, cats do NOT like to be held. They do not like to be restrained, and they feel restrained if you 'hold' them. Sit somewhere and call your cat to come to you. You don't HAVE to hold him. He wants to be with you. But he also hates his hair ruffled, besides being 'restrained'. (by the way, this is one reason some men do not like cats! cuz cats are their own person and do what they want and men HATE that). Give it time. I taught kids to stop chasing cats and sit down and wait for the cat. Get some catnip and have some fun. He might never want to be held. But he still loves you and wants to be with you. Soooooooo, take him and love him on HIS terms. Cindy

I really dont like holding my cats.
Just sitting next to them and petting them.
I only pick em up to move them in a different spot.
Like if I wanna go on the couch and theyre on it.

If you wanna pick up your cat I would suggset petting it, scratching
it gently and getting it very calm before you hold it.
Or it may not just wanna be held.
Sorry but that I cant help you with

Some cats just don't like to be held. Some would prefer to cuddle next to you, or simply sit by you and let you pet them. You need to respect your cat's preferences on this. If you do, over time, she may decide being held isn't so bad.

Try sitting on the floor and hold and pet her. Let her go about two seconds before you think she will want released. Soon she will be letting you hold her longer each time. A tasty treat might keep her with you longer.

don't pay any attention to her, she'll come around. Cats don't do anything they don't want to.
