I hope you mean understand. And if so, absolutely. Sit and watch a group of dogs some time and tell me what you think. I have four and they definitely communicate with one another.

They have their own language of sorts. They have certain sounds for warnings like hey I'm here stay away. Or oh baby I'm in heat and looking. They also have sounds that they use just for us. My dog has a certain happy whine when he wants to play and a grumbly bark when he wants to go run and play outside. So yes they have a language all thier own. Now if we could just interpret all of it they we would have the keys to the animal kingdom.

Well, I wouldnt call it comunicating through language, but they definatley communicate. I have a Bassett Hound who loves the dog accross the street. They look at each other behind the glass doors and wag thier tails. When they finally meet they jump and play. It is really cool. Not to mention, when I put my kids to bed I also have to put my dog in her crate. She loves it. She thinks she is on the same level as the family. She thinks she is being put to bed also. So to answer your question, yes.

I think they go on tone of voice (err.. bark) more than actual canine language. Like a high pitched bark means they are excited or a low pitched bark signals anger. They also use a lot of body language: tail wagging, snarling, jumping up and down, cowering, or rolling over on their tummies. I think most of their communication is probably nonverbal, so to speak.

Yes, I'm not sure if they have there own language but they definitely understand each other. That goes for wild and domesticated dogs. Although you can see it in a pack of wild easier.

Zhao,
yes they do
if you watch them
live with them
care for them
love them
you will be so very
surprised at how
intelligent they are.

In many ways,
they know more
about us
are aware of
than we know
about them.

They're simply
amazing.

Right now,
my dog is not
happy that I'm
at the computer
so she keeps coming
into the room,
and turns away
with 'the-hate-the-computer-look!

Guilt is starting to spread over me
so I´ll bid you farewell for now.
Stay well

all species have their own language and they sniff butts to see if they know one another. they pee on everything to basically leave a message this is mine. they have spray glands to produce scents when they want to mate and can growl and bark differant pitches for alarm, to tell others what they want.

Ofcourse !!! It is just, we don`t want to understand them (all living criatures) or to say they do communicate...because we humans are too selfish and with superiority complex. Just obsreve them and use your common sense. You will understand.
