Yes, we could, but not "just because we want to".
John 14:12
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
In the scripture above, Jesus makes a promise that we will be able to do these things...
John 14:13
And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.
And here He sets a condition, one that a lot of people don't completely realize. He says that we must ask in His name. Now, that doesn't neccesarily mean a request followed by "in Jesus' name, Amen.". It means so much more than that!
In Jesus' name.
A simple phrase with so much meaning. When He says that, He means literally IN His name, in the sense that we have spiritually taken the authority of His name on ourselves. Just as a bride takes her bridegroom's name, so we spiritually take His name. It's hard to explain, but a good book on prayer is "With Christ in the School of Prayer", by Andrew Murray. Here's a link to Amazon; you can buy it here for just a dollar. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0883681064/sr=8-1/qid=1152851073/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6595663-5989750?ie=UTF8
Chapter 24 deals with this topic.
And on a final note, in regards to one answerer, miracles and gifts of the Spirit have NOT ceased; that is NOT what that verse means!

Okay, I'm surprised at the people who are claiming biblical reference who obviously don't know their scripture.
I can quote a scripture, though I don't know the book/verse:
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Jesus also says that we are able to do the things he does, but it is God who grants us these miracles. The only stipulations to miracles: A) It must be in order with God's will, and B) You must TRULY believe that the miracle will happen. If either stipulation is found lacking, you can't perform the miracle.
I.E. Your wife gets hit by a car, which stops on her. If you get the car off her, she will probably live and heal. If it stays on her, she will certainly die. You truly believe that God will give you the power, but He doesn't, and she dies. Why?
God wanted to take her. He appreciates your faith, but it was just her time to go, as dictated by him.
Alternatively: Same situation, except God's will is that you have a choice to either attempt to lift the car and be successful, and she will survive; or you will not attempt to lift the car, lacking in faith. If you don't lift the car, that's not God's fault.
Of course, that will surely lead to the argument, "If God is all-knowing, then he already knows whether your wife will live or die, and as such, you don't really have a choice." But that's an entirely different matter.

No, we are not given the "Power" to perform a divine Jesus' miracles - only God (Jesus) does miracles and they are truly divine interventions in our lives - if a man says he has the power to do miracles he is a liar and not of God - that is scripture. And we are not supposedly God's children, as when we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Redeemer and Lord, and we have that relationship with him, then we have been adopted by God and hav become his child. But our gifts are the fruits of the spirit and the gifts of the spirit and miracle working isn't in either of these.

The Lord Jesus says very clearly in John 14:12, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, whosoever believeth on me the works that I do shall you do also. And greater works than these shall you do because I go unto the Father". Also, Mark 16:17 it says these are the signs that will follow them that believe. In my name they shall cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues, they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them, they will place their hands on the sick, and they will get better". Not to mention, all the miracles that were performed by the apostles in the book of Acts. My god daughter had became ill because of her leukemia. Bluish and black lesions began to develop underneath her skin. The doctor told told her mother because of the worsening condition they would have to do a bone marrow tap. Which is a very painful procedure. The mother brought my god daughter to me and asked me to pray for her. My god daughter recovered successfully. The lesions went away. The mother took my god daughter (Alexis) back to the doctor. The doctor said she was so healthy that there was no reason to give her the bone marrow tap. God Himself did the healing. I was just a tool He worked through. Just like a carpenter would use a hammer. God gets all the praise and glory.

Firstly, we are most definitely God's children, read Romans 8:16-18
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
There is some deep doctrine - we are joint-heirs with Christ of the Father's kingdom, we will be glorified with Christ.
About the miracles, miracles have not ceased. God is an unchanging God, if he still loves us why would he withdraw himself from us? The power to perform mighty miracles like Christ did lies in the power of the priesthood. He and his apostles all held this sacred power and with it were able to perform mighty miracles. There was an apostasy - as prophesied in 2 thes 2, but God unchanging and merciful restored his truth on the earth, and along with it the priesthood: which is the authority to act in the name of God. With faith, all things are possible.

Absolutely! If you are a Christian, you are an heir to the throne of Glory. God will give you the power to work miracles. He will only do this if the miracles glorify Him; not man.

God has the ability to give us the power to perform miracles.
What he has tended to do however is to reserve miracles for certain key periods in Judeo-Christian History (e.g., the time of Moses, the time of Elijah and Elisha, the time of Christ).
Cordially,
John

The Lord may work through us, but all good things come from him. He is the performer of miracles.
