My son will be 3 on Halloween and he currently has a booster seat in the car and he currently is at 38lbs. (gosh don't they grow like weeds?) Do I need to buy another one? or does anyone know what kind of booster seat I need to buy at this point? I don't remember what the weight limitations for his cosco car seat is but I think it was up to 40lbs. Please help me find a new one because I don't want him hurt and also? Are they all 5 point harness ones? Is this a choice or a law? If anyone can suggest any car seats? and what kind would you suggest? how many lbs are are they up to after that? I thought after the infant seat I would only have to buy this one...which is a booster seat...I think I am wrong!

Anyone that can help would be soooo greatly appreciated...trying to protect my son soo please help me!!!

Ohh and also money isn't an issue cause any car seat that will keep my son safe I will purchase!! Please Help!!!

Have a look at the Cosco Summit high back. It ranges from 20 to 100 lbs (or maybe 80lbs) and was given the highest safety rating. When they get too big for the harness you just use the seatbelt like a booster. I did tons of research on this when I bought one including the National Hiway Safety Institute site. I was prepared to spend as much money as it would take to get the safest but this one was actually in the same price range as most.

I actually bought 3, one for both cars and one for Gramma and Grampa's just to be safe.

Hmm- if he's just going to be three you should get a 5-point harness seat with a weight limit of up to 50 or 60 lbs. My son is 4 and about 40 lbs and I've switched him to a booster that uses the regular seat belt, for up to 60 lbs or something like that. I'd just start looking at different seats, or ask a salesperson at Babies R Us/Kids R Us for help.

I think under the age of 4 kids have to be in a seat with a 5-pt harness.

Most states require a booster seat/car seat til child is at least 5 years old and 40 pds.....states are starting to require car seats up to 60 pds....if your child can sit on seat, with back against the back of car, with the knees bent at edge of seat, and the belt across the middle of chest, he is tall enough....but may not weigh enough....call your local state police for the law (some states ticket children not properly restrained)...your local fire dept may do car seat installations and may give you answers.
At 3 years old & 38 lbs, he def needs a car seat.....I used to work in a preschool and frequently had to address this with parents...

We bought a Britax car seat from Babies R Us for around $250. It goes up to 80 pounds, so it should be the last one you'd need to purchase. We've used it since our 7 month old daughter outgrew her infant carrier, and she's 18 months old and still loving it. It got great safety reviews and has many prints to choose from. Good luck!

geez go to walmart and look at the carseats. they all have tags with weight limits and stuff on them and pick one out. i think the 5 point harness is the big thing now because its safer.
