When I need a good wine from Santa Rita Hills I go into my wine cellar and bring out Clos Pepe Vineyards. You have probably never heard of them though... they have a website and you should buy some wines from there!

Washington really doesn't make any great pinots, yet, but they are getting there (yes they make some really nice general drinking ones...). Oregon makes some great ones, but more in the Burgundian style: more mineral and not as much fruit as a California pinot. If you want the strong fruit, fuller body, drink reasonably young pinots, The California are probably the best bet for you.

Siduri, Loring, and Sea Smoke make some excellent ones. Sea Smoke is very limited, but might find their wines on some of the auction sites. Siduri I know has a good selection of highly rated wines available. Archery Summit's top shelf offerings are also very nice, but there lower lines are overpriced for their quality.

La Rochelle (esp. their reserves, they make a great Oregon grape pinot as well) and Wente's upper lines are fantastic, as well as Steven Kent pinots, if you can find the latter. La Rochelle has a fantastic new Gary's vineyard release, but its out of my price range - and just in yours!

and if you have the money to play - check out a few and see the differences between the Oregon and the Californian!

Honestly, if you want the best Pinots in that price range - you want Oregon and Washington vineyards. They are literally some of the best in the world. Ones to look for:

Domaine Drouhin 'Laurene'
Domaine Serene
Archery Summit 2003 Arcus Estate (95 points Wine Spectator)
Patricia Green
Ken Wright
Sineann Resonance 2003 (93 points Wine Spectator)

These wineries are the best of the best when it comes to Pinot.
