Find out where your local gun ranges are in your area. The gun range can be indoor or outdoor (I tend to prefer outdoor ones), and ask them what type of classes they offer. Many of the larger gun clubs or shooting ranges tend to have tons of classes and there are classes just for women. You could also check out the NRA website, as their site has a lot of information and you might be able to find some helpful information there.

Contact a gun range or gun store nearby. They will give you ideas, addresses and whereabouts. So you want to shoot well but don't want to learn how to defend your life. Self defense is more than a gun or knife or anything else you rely on. If you rely on those things, what happens when you can't get to them in time? Or what happens when you lose them in the melee? Many dead victims were found with guns and knives that didn't help them in their time of struggle. Vigilance in your environment is the key to avoiding these predatory occurrences. The reason armed citizens could not pull their weapons is because they were taken by surprise. Vigilance reduces that from happening. Also target shooting and combat shooting are not the same. Don't even have a gun if you are unwilling to kill the goblin who wants to take away your life.

I suggest you contact your police department, they might refer you to a range or perhaps one of the officers might be willing to give the basics him/her self. Also take a look at the yellow pages of your phone book under associations as they may have NRA groups there. Most NRA groups are tied to shooting ranges.

There should be some shooting ranges in your metro area. Also contact the NRA and find out about firearms instruction.

Your best bet is to ask any local gun shops of a rod & gun club nearest you. Gun clubs usally offer basic safety classes and teach ya on how to aim. To get better practise make perfect. check into the IDPA if ya want to learn some defending tecneqs it's fun and you meet lots of people just like your self.

Once again, this proves my point that even though women complain about being thought down upon by men, they are the ones that choose to ostrasize themselves....
