Back in the day, your parents could get you outa class on Fridays to learn about your religion. It was way cool...

Why can't they do that again?

That practice was done away with a while ago, along with public prayer in public schools.

When the constitution outlined the separation of church and state, it was to keep religion from controlling goverment and to keep government from intruding on religious freedom. It was a good concept.

But it was a two sided coin, because with free exercise of religion came the freedom NOT to exercise... and not to be subjected to others who choose to exercise. The result then was that it was determined to be "unfair" to non-religious students to have to stay in class when "religious students" were excused.

I hold retreats for my public school students throughout the year- but the most any student would miss is 2 days.

My own children attended similar retreats when they went to public school.

These are excused absences for religious reasons. It should be OK at any achool as long as it is legit and not abused.

Too many religions and Schools/Teachers can not show any favortism to any of them.

If they wanted to make it fair, then they should release every student on Friday!

Because the left doesn't want it, nor do the atheists. Supporting religion doesn't go along with the agenda of the liberals.

Who knows. Back in the day teachers could spank you in school if you were bad. We just rely so much now on our own wisdom, and we refuse to take responsiblity for our own actions.

hmmm.. your parents can still take you out of school, the law requires that you attend school a specific minimum number of days per year... so you may end up attending on Saturdays if they take you out too much.

They expect us to do it without asking next time. This is the objective indeed.
