East Germany built a wall to keep people IN, because too many were trying to leave. The U.S. has proposed a wall on the Mexican border to keep people OUT because too many people are trying to Ieave Mexico. It seems to me that East Germany was a failed it's people, and so has Mexico.
Every nation reserves the right to control it's borders and decide who gets in.

Being Australian I cannot really comment on the Mexico wall from a knowledgeable position. That said, its probably being erected to keep illegal immigrants out. Trouble is it wont work. People desperate to excape oppression, poor social conditions and such, will still try to escape and make better and, some will give their lives to do so. The Berlin wall proved that people are ingenious when it comes to escape and, the power of hope. An ya know, its very hard not to have hope. This I think shows the poor thought regarding a Mexico wall. The Berlin wall came down because there is a better way. We just gotta be smart enough and have enough courage to take that way.

The Berlin Wall served its purpose in its time, cruel though the border enforcement may have been.
Now the Wall at the Mexican border is going up. Unlike the Berlin Wall, which was designed to keep people from escaping from the Soviet-Warsaw nations, this one is designed to keep the common man and woman out, to prevent them from entering.
I think the US government would have a more cost-effective solution in reforming the application process so that people don't feel so tempted to come illegally. We need to be much more strict with the lawbreakers already here, deporting them for the slightest infraction, while encouraging law abiding and skilled applicants to enter our nation.
But while the current wave of xenophobia lasts, hey, there are more jobs in security, Border Patrol, and the fencing industry! Think of the bright side!

The proposed wall is nothing like the Berline wall. The Berlin wall was designed to keep people in, and diviided a single country. The proposed wall between the US and Mexico is designed to protect a country and is a great idea. If we have a wall on both borders in addition to hight tech stuff and national guard as well as border patrol we would be in good shape.

I think the wall for Mexico is a waste of time. Not that I think just because you're from Mexico you should have a free pass to illegally immigrate to the U.S., but because I think it doesn't matter what obstacles are put in the way. I think the Berlin wall was cruel. By the way, that one was meant to keep people in, not out.

The Berlin Wall and a US border wall/fence have two things in common: The one was, and the other is, a tangible line of demarcation designed to control population flow; and they are both highly charged emotional symbols. Otherwise, they have nothing in common.
The Berlin Wall was built to keep people from fleeing the communist country. Barbed wire, land mines and "death strips" were used to keep people behind the "Iron Curtain."
A US-Mexico border fence/wall is designed to protect the sovereign rights of the United States by controlling who enters the country. Lethal force is not authorized, nor should it ever be, to simply keep economic migrants out of the United States.

The wall is great. Secure the borders and if a wall is used as a helpful tool, well that is cool.
The Berlin wall came down because of communism, not because of an ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION situation.
Two big, huge differences!

I think they better just leave well enough alone. The Berlin wall was put up to keep people in NOT out. I don't like the wall dividing Mexico and the USA.
I have the utmost respect to those who have fought and our continuing to fight for these United States. BUT please, is there ever going to be an end to this. Think about the economy.....

A wall on the Mex border,is to stop illegal entry into the country.
The Berlin wall was built to acquire possession of half of a country.
The two are not comparable.
