They are illegal and therefore have already broken the law. You are born where you were meant to be born and if you want to migrate you should do so in a legal matter. It would be better if they stayed in their own country and tried to change things to make it a better place to live.

No, if they entered legally they need to go back and re-apply legally, the right way.
Paid taxes? Maybe municipal and county taxes, but what income taxes are they paying? If they're so concerned about taxes they should have applied for legal residency, work visa, like my own wife and mother did their paperwork, stood in line with the rest of those who APPROACHED HONESTLY not sneaking across the border.
Citizenship here is a privelege not a right, lest you're born here. And some are working to change that last part for those who want to enter illegally and have their children born here.
Let me turn this around. Why should so many Mexicans abandon their native land, and avoid paying into their own Social Security health system and taxes? Why shouldn't they help develop their own economy? Why don't more educated Mexican Americans return to Mexico to help improve the land of La Raza?

I don't care what nationality illegal aliens are. The fact remains that if they came here illegally, they remained here illegally. How on earth did they pay taxes without being discovered? How did they obtain a job that was not paid under the table?
I don't believe that if a person enters a country illegally, they have broken the law, and so don't deserve a resident card.

Yes definitely, I watched 30 Days last night; and they had a minuteman live with an illegal immigrant family. I was kinda divided on the issue before I saw this, but now I think upright citizens with no rap sheet should get the chance. A large majority of these folks are coming here because it is their only choice their backs are against the wall. I am soon to be a father and I would do the same thing if my choices were between staying there and living in a poverty most can't imagine, or running across the border and living off the grid. Some extremists think illegal immigrants are coming to start a revolution, but really it is just people trying to do what is best for their family, and in my mind that is far from a crime. The only qualm I have are those who don't pay taxes and take advantage of our benefits, but if we legalized them, they would be in our system and they'd have to pay taxes to take advantage of government programs.
My radical idea is to just annex Mexico into the United States; it'd be a land grab and we could mitigate the mass of people that endanger their families crossing the border and living without healthcare and losing ties with the rest of their family back in Mexico.
About 95% of these people are fine people. They have the highest of family values, they work harder than most people, and they have a strong faith. Ironically enough, these criteria are supposedly what George Bush and the right wing stand for, so why are they shunning these people?
....An afterthought, I just read what #one said, and that brings me to another point- opponents of the legalization of illegals say that these folks should just stay in Mexico and change things in their own government. This is a fine brand of hypocrisy, most of these saying that can't change their U.S. government or this issue would be in their court. Mexicans have about as much control of their government as an American does in their country; we can vote and write our congress. The latter is almost unheard of, the prior is almost a joke anymore as we saw in the 2000' election where the people voted in majority for one person and the other walked away with the presidency. Not to mention the fact, these people don't have time to picket and protest their government, or go to meetings in some far off city, most don't even have a vehicle to get around. They are preoccupied with the more immediate responsibilities of working for a couple of pesos, or scrounging up the next meal for their family. I see it as the equivalent of telling a homeless person to quit bit**ing and change his government.

Think about the name of our county flks, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, What's the meaning. We are all united in every way. I can't believe people are having a problem with race and creed as though the US has decided that seeing how they coulden't pick on the black or native americans now everyone has to pick at the mexicans because they are so damn bored with the same old thing. People are stupid. If you have been here hold no background of criminal behavior and have a clean slate I say stay, Make your self at home. I don't know why the white man has to be so stingy,The land here is not fully paid for!!!!!! Yoyu all allow china japan and the other countries to step over the border!!!! What the US is saying is that it is ok for other countries to come here but not Mexico

No, just because they have evaded authorities longer doesn't mean they can stay. In fact, these are all people who came after the "one time amnesty" in 1986 that promised beefed up border security and employer sanctions. If the provisions of the first amnesty bill had been enforced these people wouldn't be here.
What exactly about either sneaking past law enforcement or lying about coming here temporarily entitles them to become a citizen or get special treatment? They don't deserve anything except a trip back to their own country.
If people are so upset with the home countries, why don't they march in those streets with all the well financed groups that are lobbying the US?

Paid income taxes or sales taxes? 200 billion is sent to Mexico each year by illegals, that is why Fox and others think Illegals to the US are heroes. How much do the social services cost in comparison to the cheap labor? Schools, medical, aid cuz they pop out babies on this side?
AND Genius they did break the law, when they came and lived here illegally, rofl you even said it.
Why is maintaining a soverign border considered bad. LOL I dont get it. I dont care if they are Canadian, or from Venus, its against the law. And its an insult to those who came here legally.

If these Hispanic folks were made to go make to Mexico, do you have any idea what would happen to this economy???? No fruit, nor vegetables and no peanuts of any kind. I say leave well enough alone. Who would these United States get to go out in the fields and work????? I am not a racist person at all but lets use some common sense here. Go ahead and give them a resident card!!! They have provided you with food for those five years...
You go porterhouse!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSS

Should we be upset with Hispanics for sneaking into the country, well yes, but not any more than the Native Americans that we massacred to get it. Our economy depends on their willingness to work for less than what anyone else would. Let's not lie to ourselves about that. How many white people want to pick tomatoes for 27 cents a bucket????? Enjoy your BLT.
I think that if these people have been a part of our society, have not been in trouble with the law and pay into our tax system, they should stay. Can you tell the difference between a legal and illegal Hispanic immigrant? If we start looking for them, the USA will end up re-enacting the Nazi pogrammes of WWII Poland, we beat the Nazi's for a reason....let's not revert to their racially motivated politics.

Yes, I do..........I worked in HR/PAYROLL many years with a lot of great, lovely Mexicans who were here illegally. Convinced them to apply for citizenship and even secretly raised their salaries & told them to not expose this. (After 8 yrs. of employ company was still only paying them $5.00 per hr.!!)
I believe today's problem is the fact that these Mexican people are crossing the border because they were told of all the "free" monies, housing, health ins., etc. they will be given. Sometimes this is so and the born residents of the United State are naturally angry because when we apply for assistance of any kind we get turned down............yet those that cross the border are put on our payroll in many forms. Yet there are soooo many United States residents that do without and live in cardboard boxes!!
