Salut (greetings, hello, hey, yo) is more or less hello.
Bon jour is literally 'good day'.

Hello = salut
But it is more polit to say Bonjour ou bonsoir , it depens on the time you meet people .

There are a few expression that you can use to say hello:

Salut= just like saying hello
ca va = like hello, hows everything
Bonjour = like saying hello good mourning
Bonsoir = Like hello good afternoon or good night

bonjour is a formal way of saying hello which means good day. in the evening you would say bonsoir (bone-SWAH) if you are talking to a friend or aquantince, you would say salut (SAH-loo) which means both hi and bye.

hello would be hallo but you say it without the h
