Hailed by Flak Magazine in 2002 as one of the most over exposed drinks of the year, the Brazilian caipirinha took leave of the cocktail scene but is making a hot comeback, as American consumers fall in love with the cocktail yet again. New designer cachacas lead the wave of this re-emergence with flashy packaging and catchy names Leblon, Cachaca Cabana and Beleza Pura. These new-comers compete with the larger Brazilian brands such as Cachaca Pitu and Pirassununga-51, which are readily available in every almost every state in the union. This time around, however, a little-known brand of cachaca with a microscopic production volume and a very unusual name is breaking records and surprising aficionados everywhere; right now cocktail drinkers love caipirinhas, and they love Cachaca Fazenda Mae De Ouro.

If all else fails try your local liquor store, I guess It's hard to find it in the states but it's all over the place here in germany, good luck

I lived in Brazil for a while and had it quite often in a drink called Caipirinha. Its pretty strong, and tends to sneak up on you. Brazilians call it "pinga".

To make caipirinha, you mix fruit juice (usually lime), sugar, ice & cachaça.

The brand we used to get in Brazil was "51".

I don't know where to buy it in the states, but you could try this site... http://www.imigrantesbebidas.com.br/

I know you can get it in an upscale liquor store. Try online or if you know a bar owner see if they can order it for you from their distributer. It is available in the states. If you are in the Boston or Miami area, where they have a large population of Portugese or Brazilians you should have no problem. Caiprinhas (sp) are great.

This was asked before, try searching for more answers, but Pitu is one of the most common brands in the US, and reasonably priced. It's an unmistakeable label, they have a big Lobster on the front...

at the liquor store. caipirinha..... get limes and cut them up in quarters or smaller if the limes are big. place in pitcher, add sugar and smash it together real good to get the juice out of the limes, pour cachaca and ice cubes. serve in rock glasses and yes, you will get happily drunk, don't kid yourself!!! Do it at home, don't drive, it's heavy duty stuff!!!!!
