Mudra is a configuration of the hands and or fingers to enhance meditation and contact with the spirits and deities. it is often used in conjunction with meditation and also puja. it is also used in Indian Dance movement.

Mudra is a hindi word that means stamp. I do Odissi (one of the seven forms of Indian classical dance) and the hand gestures are referred to as mudras, but the actual word is translated to mean stamp.
