No cure known - only palliative care. . .
For me, that began with a drug called Fiorinal - a narcotic.
Many other remedies were attempted, but this med was the only one that consistently worked. . .and quickly. Thank god. . .
Haven't experienced one of these awfully painful attacks for many years, so - perhaps there is something better on the market, today - but I doubt it. If I were to feel a migraine coming on, I'd call my current md and ask for script for Fiorinal.

If you do indeed have a migraine, if caught in the early stages a lot of times ibuprofen can end it before it gets a good hold on you. If you have them often, your family physician can put you on medication daily that should help keep them at bay. Your family physician can also prescribe stronger pain medications that will help end a migraine that has already started for occasional use. If it has already gone past the point of no return (you have lost your vision totally or you are throwing up repeatedly) head to your nearest Emergency Room where they will most likely shoot your bum full of a nice combination of Demerol and Dimenhydrinate (Gravol) which will knock you out for a few hours so don't drive yourself there.
You really do need to see a doctor and get a proper diagnoses, it might be a migraine.....but it could be a brain anuerysm about to explode......always better safe than sorry.

ive had migraines for 14 years. i take imitrex and axert- both rx's. they both work most of the time...sometimes if its a bad one ill have to take another. ive tried many preventatives...however you need to find out what kind of migraines youre having first. there are two different kinds (common and classic) and depending on which kind you have there are different types of meds and preventatives(such as topamax, zoloft, and several others) you can take. a classic migraine youll usually have an aura (you might see funny lights or feel numbess right before you get a migraine)...those are sometimes treated differently than common migraines. pay attention to triggers too. different foods, sleep patterns, smells, and sounds could cause migraines. eliminate as many as possible. see a neurologist if you can. youll most likely need a referral from your primary doc. a primary usually has samples of some meds. try the imitrex stat injection. its an injection you give yourself. you never see the needle. very easy to load and inject yourself. hurts a lil bit, but your migraine will be gone in 10 min! in the mean time if you cant get a rx then try excedrine migraine. didnt work for me, but give it a shot. try to lay in a dark room with a cold rag on your head. keep the room nice and cool. hope this helps.

Try taking a full dose of acetaminophen and a full dose of ibuprofen (the medicines work differently so it's safe to take them together) and drinking something with caffeine in it if you can keep anything down. Stay away from light and noise, and sleep it off. If this has lasted for more than a day, you might want to go to the ER. You could have a cluster headache, which doctors sometimes treat by putting you on oxygen for a while, or something very serious such an an aneurysm or poisoning of some kind.

I suffer from migraines occasionaly, not enough though to be placed on medication. What has always worked for me was a cold compress placed over my eyes and forehead. I try to lay in a darkened room with the door closed to eliminate as much sound as possible. Don't be fooled into taking the over the counter medications-they dont always work and can be expensive. Reduce your stress levels-stress almost always brings mine on. Hope this helps.

Ususally you need medication, and most over the counter pills will work, however, if it continues, its more than likey stress and or anxiety which needs medical attention, physical and or mental. But if it's just light stress or migrain, relaxing,a massage or just some time to yourself, never hurts.
