I am already in the Air Force Delayed entry program, but I have time to change over. I know its weird but I feel like I need to join the Marine Corps, but my parents are so happy with me going into the Air Force. Is this just manly pride? Please help.

What's the issue with wanting to go marine? You're going to like the AF MUCH more over time. They take very good care of you & deployments are shorter. There are certainly AF troops in combat on the ground everyday. If it's a matter of wanting to get in the fight rather than behind a desk, you're underestimating how hard you'll work in the AF for one, and also not taking a look at what AF jobs are availbale to you. Have you checked into AF special operations, or are you not in that kind of physical/mental shape? AF engineers, mechanics, cops, medics, interpreturs, civial affairs, & EOD are doing exactly the same things their Army/Marine counterparts are. It's tough for me to advise you personally w/o giving me more information, but don't sell the AF short. Feel free to msg me & I'd be happy to help & direct you to a wealth of information based on your individual desires (both in service & after) & qualifications (ASVAB).

You have to decide what you want from life. Don't join one or the other just to please someone else. The Air Force has alot to offer with training and things like that. It is really easy to do. Nothing that I've ever seen in the Air Force is challenging except perhaps testing. As for the Marines, it takes a certain type of person. You should want to be challenged before you join the Marines. It is NOT for everyone. And you don't just go off and join the Marines. THEY either accept you, or they don't. When your time is over in the Air Force, it is over. But once you are a Marine, you are a Marine until the day you die. And even then, there are those that carry on.
I suggest, an aviation field should you decide upon the Corps. Many of the same jobs and training as in the Air Force are yours this way.
And of course, the Marines have the coolest Dress Blues of all branches.

If you join the Air Force, you will have a good life, take college classes, and you will have a normal life and you will never know.

But if you join the Marine Corps, you will go to field training for sometimes 6 months straight, eating, sleeping, shooting, sweating, training all day in the middle of no where, not being able to shower for months, then deploy some where for a long time wondering if you will ever come back. And you will get shot at, feel the heat of a RPG 7 round pass over your head. wake up at night from mortars exploding, be hungry, pissed off, and miserable.
But you will know you are alive. You will never feel so alive. You will actually serve the country with everything you have and most of the times you won't be rewarded, but you will know deep in your heart that you changed history and you will be proud. If thats what you want, join the Marine Corps and you will be glad.

Air Force man! Unless you want to go to war and get shot at.
I would also recommend the Navy. Air Force and Navy will give you good opportunities for the future. Army and Marines are more about fighting. And remember that if you want a certain job, u ain't gonna get it guranteed. 60% of enlistees that join the AF don't know what job they are doing. That is why i am joining the Navy. And the Navy is a good place to see the world.

I say Air Force over Marines.

Besides those two, Navy. Navy is more of an adventure. AF you just stay in base with a uniform and it's just like being a civilian. Like people said, they treat you the best with the best housing and nicest bases. I would of joined if they guranteed jobs. But still, Navy is the way to go if u want to feel like you are in the military and get good opportunities for your future.

Hope this helps. Good Luck

Well I had joined the Army and got out, but I have seen good opportunities for a future career in the Air Force. The Marine Corps is more about war and fighting. So it depends on where your heart is really and what your goals are. Personally because of career choices if you want to make a future...join the Air Force, but if your compelled to fight for your country more than anything Join the Marine Corps.

First Of all the air force shall be a number one pick. The air force is better of helping you with your needs not saying the army, marine corp, coast guard, or the navy don't support. trust they really do. But the air force is easy going but will have barriers and obstacle , training isn't long like the others and also they have more career opportunities. don't expect to be an officer as soon as you get there. There will be along time until you see that title. just be proud to be an NCO and better proud for your country but Love within your self.

Do this for your self and no one else.

Coming from a totally military family (my dad, me, my ex hubbys, my kids) I have to say stick with the Air Force, they are the branch that treats their people the best. For instance, when they build a base (or fix one up) they BEGIN with housing while the other branches save that for last in case they run outta $$ they can skimp on the housing issues. I will tell you though, if you're looking to advance quickly, the Air Force is the slowest, the fastest in advancement is Navy.
There are way less career opportunities in Marines and Army then there are in the other branches. Good luck and Hoorah for you for joining in these troubled times!

Since you've already signed papers for the air force, go ahead and do the AF thing. If you don't like it, switch over when your time is up. That way, you keep options open and you won't burn any bridges. The marine corps will be there when you get out of the air force, if you do get out.

It all depends on why you are joining the service....

(before anyone goes off on me...yes...I know that their are AF going in and breaking down doors, and I know there are Marines staging things from behind a computer...but in general....)

Are you joining up to have stable employment, bide your time until retirement and help out your country in the process, on more of a technical side? (Tech jobs outnumbering hands on jobs in Iraq.)

Or

Are you joining because feel passionately about the cause and want to go and kick some tail by knocking down doors and getting your hands dirty. (hands on jobs outnumbering Tech jobs in Iraq.)

Having experience with both (brother in the Air Force and ex in the Marines) I would say if you answered the former (1st) then go AF, if the latter (2nd) go Marines....

Or...just go Army and kill 2 birds with one stone!
You get the best of both worlds...go over and kick some tail, while still being able to bide your time (every other year) in garrison and pray for the insanity to stop.

Which ever way you choose. (Enter your religious belief figure here) Bless you for even considering it. You are tremendously brave and the military need more people like you!

The Air Force would be the more cerebral of the two choices. However, if you want something more visceral join the Marines. My friend, a Marine, just got back from Iraq and just cant stop bragging about the 3 Iraqi insurgents he was blessed to shred with his .50cal. from only 50 yards. I personally couldn't handle that kind of close front line combat without coming back to the states with a serious case of post traumatic stress disorder.
