I once asked my mom if there was a fire if she would let me pull the alarm in a fire and she said she would. How is it she would let me pull it even if she was near me? Would you let your son pull it in a fire if he asked and you were in a safe place and the alarm was outside? What would you do to help your son to make sure he pulled it correctly? Would you watch him and guide him? If so what would you say to help? Would you put your hand over his hand to pull the handle ? Or read the directions together? Would it be ok for your son to read the alarm directions out loud? How would you calm him after?

A friend wanted to know as well different opinions.

BTW What age would you think it's normal to pull a fire alarm? What is the youngest? Also do you know anyone who has pulled a fire alarm in a fire?

You basicially asked this question before and no one knew what you were talking about then either...

What kind of a fire alarm do you need to help to activate? It must not be a conventional alarm, because on those you just pull the lever and leave! What's going on that you need help to activate it? Why is it "outside"? Is it a bell or something that needs manual action to continually activate?

I received best answer when you asked this before, by vote, but I never did understand what it was you were talking about.

I don't care for the premise at all. If there is a fire, you want to get out, simple as that. All this about a fire alarm, and who would pull it is secondary. Not every building has a manual pull, to set off an alarm. Many buildings are not even required to have a fire alarm system. If it is smokey would you both be searching for a fire alarm box you might have a hard time finding? Would you waste that time to do it? If on the way out of a building on fire would you stop, read directions, maybe play paper rock scissors to choose who gets to pull it like a game? Fires grow rapidly, and a clear area could be full of smoke in minutes.

Most buildings that are equipped with an alarm, also have an automatic way of setting it off as well, by detectors or sprinkler system. It's perfectly fine to pull the alarm in the event of a fire, but only by doing so safely and on the way out. Just pull it, don't make a game of it.

well if you are the only one around to pull the alarm and there is a fire pull it .but really now if there is a fire it needs to be pulled fast not after someone helped the child to read the instructions and guide his hand ....someone pull the alarm and get the fire trucks there to help put out the fire .... and if you want to know for sure how to do it get a practice alram and learn it or look one over when there is not a fire and learn what to do it is always a good thing to have everyone know what to do in a fire but it is not a good idea to practice fire alarm pulling when there is an actual fire going on common sense would tell anyone this .

I would definitely let my hypothetical son pull the alarm during a real fire. That's exciting stuff for a kid! Think of how he'll be able to brag about that in school next time someone starts talking all that junk about how cool they are. Plus some alarms shoot ink if pulled (so they can catch someone who pulls a false alarm) and I don't want to have to worry about scrubbing that ink off. So, it's a win-win situation for me. My son the hero!

Uh nicely, if 10 12 months olds can pull the hearth alarm in faculties, then i'm certain a 13 12 months previous can. If I, because the mummy, couldn't pull the alarm, he'd actually be suggested to tug it. You sound like you've not any self belief in besides in this son of yours.

I don't think there are directions on a fire alarm, if there is an emergency anyone should be able to pull down the handle, if they can reach it of course.

Yes.
I feel if your child id in a safe place away from the fire or any harm and the alarm was in the immediate vicinity of the child they should automatically know to pull it and stay in a safe place out of harms way. It could mean life or death for others affected by the fire.

if there's a fire then call a freakin fire truck everyone has a cell phone these days, then pull the alarm, it doesn't really matter who pulls it does it? then point is to add water to the fire not have a big family gathering around the alarm.

Yes in an Emergency I would allow my son to pull the alarm. In schools they teach you these things, so there wouldnt be much explaining to do unless of course they arent school age just yet. In that case I might not allow him if he is too young. I would want him to be safe. We protect our young, and I would want to make sure he didnt get hurt and was safe.
