It wasn't technically Lebanon, it was a terrorist group that is allowed to operate inside of Lebanon by the government. But they want to provoke Israel into a war, hoping that the other Middle Eastern nations will jump-in against Israel and ultimately destroy them.

Lebanon didn't kidnap the Israeli's. Terrorists supported by Iran and Syria did, and killed half a dozen other soldiers during their sneak attack.

What I want to know is why so many people in the free world are stupid enough to see what is really happening and has been happening in the Middle East for years. The do gooders in this country (think they are doing good) by trying to negotiate with these idiots. The only diplomacy they understand is at the open end of a rifle barrel.

Quojakeauctions...while I understand where youre coming from...please remember that Osama was also educated and he is also very rich (remember the bin Ladens in Farenheit 9/11...the fact that they were stinking rich was the only verifiable grain of truth in that documentary). In short its not whether you are stupid or smart or rich or poor...but its whether or not you've got a brain disorder. Since these terrorists believe in an evil perverted religious empire which no sane person would want...they're showing that they do have brain disorders.
(Back to the Question)
The lowdown is Hezbollah (which has for some reason has taken upon itself to be speaking for all of Lebanon) kidnapped the 2 soldiers as bargaining chips for a prisoner exchange for something like 5000 arab prisoner/terrorists. The Lebanese Gov't didnt do this (at least the moderate majority), but since their gov't has Hezbollah officials (like Hamas they were allowed into the political process) Israel thinks rightly or wrongly that Hezbollah has taken control of Lebanon's government and are thus acting accordingly. Whether Hezbollah anticipated this is unknown though its not improbable.
IMHO...Hezbollah and Hamas are running out of suicide bomber recruits (if you notice most of the recent attacks on Israel were by way of artillery rockets...so they'll want to recycle the prisoners that they want out of Israel into more weapons of terror). The angle that they are doing this to escalate the war and make it Arabs against Israelis again is interesting...but most of the Arabs arent that insane (yet)...most of what I'm seeing apart from usual Israeli flag-burning are calls for stopping the civilian bombings and a return to negotiations.

There's an old saying you get what you pay for. I think this is a good example of the correct usage for that phrase. The Israeli's and the Europeans have traded criminals for hostages in the past with these same terrorist groups. I don't believe that the terrorist really expected this response based on what has happened in the past.

I think the response this time is the correct one. If the Israelis had not made taking hostages pay off in the past it wouldn't be happening now. If the terrorist benefit from taking hostages they will continue to do it, it cost them to take hostages they will quit doing it.

Cause they are Terrorist. I mean we took 3 soldiers now release 5000 of our soldiers. That is the mentality of those Arabs that are living in the 18 century. Times have changed and they believe something written 2000 years ago. Wake up packies times have changed and the turbins will burn cause Israel is no country to underestimate.

The reason why Lebanon kidnapped Israeli soldiers, is to make a deal with them. Saying We'll give you back your people if, you give our people and stop the attacks.

They have spent their lives hating eath other. The live and breath the troubles between them.
We have no concept of this. Our children aren't taught from birth to hate another nation.
Violence and vindictivness is part of their life. It someone else doens't start the craziness they do it themself. They seak it out. Jump at the chance to fight. It's been like this for generations. We can't comprehend this....as Americans we think we can go in and get everyone together, stand holding hands in a circle and sing KUMBI YA and make all nice nice. It ain't gonna happen.

they're nevertheless being held...it isn't stated because after the a million,000 record about the conflict some issues commence to lose value. until eventually you're studying the N.Y. situations L.A. situations WASHINGTON put up or one in all yet another 2-3 "vast" papers you'll commence to lose section information like that by the ten-fifteenth day. *united states in the present day is enormous notwithstanding the allways run their memories short* Smaller papers decrease AP memories(ussualy alot) out of nationwide international memories to lead them to fit. Plus in case you prefer to get political...The captured infantrymen isn't why Israel invaded/attacked Lebanon...its in simple terms #one hundred in a list of greavances and Israels record eded at one hundred.

i suppose they hoped it would give them (all non israelis) yet another bargaining chip for prisoner exchange. hoping israel was focussed on gaza, maybe they would not have the wherewithal to respond in the north. they might have miscalculated. who knows, the future is yet to unfold... i think the entire world, that has typically been stabalized by american military power, for good or bad is repositioning itself. they know we are stuck in the quagmire of iraq. north korea, iran, several south american nations, russia, and china, have all been given a 'hall pass' to test the limits of the new American Empire's control. and they are smart to do that. if you ruled a small country you'd do the same... these middle east countries are all flush with petrodollar incomes that you and i are paying for at the pump. they're aquiring a new sense of themselves and their recently rich wherewithal. we should all start trying to get used to it.

Because they could use them to barter for the thousands of Lebanese citizens Israel has locked up in prisons. And Hezbollah did the kidnapping, not the Lebanese gov't.
