I dont believe so--
What you need to do in that stuation is very slowly pull the tab upward until you hear a hissing sound- hold the tab there until the hissing sound stops, and then pop it open. That works every time.

If the soda is in a bottle, just unscrew the top very slightly and quickly reclose it before the fizz reaches the top. Wait for the fizz to go back down, and repeat as necessary. Also works every time, if you're careful enough.

I think it's more the time it takes you to do it that is actually letting the fizz go down! lol,My theory is it just gives you something to do while you're waiting, thinking you're making it go faster.
You should try shaking two cans equally and then waiting the same amount of time to open them while you tap on one and leave the other alone open them at the same time and see if it works! Let me know! make sure to post the results!

Yes - the trapped CO2 in the soda collects on solid surfaces, specifically the sides of the can. Tapping the can redissolves part of the CO2.

Not at all. Tapping will not force any of the carbon dioxide back into solution. The time it takes you to tap may allow some to be dissolved. All in all, it is a waste of energy.

Not all the time. Sometimes when you open the lid, the soda can fizzle out over the can.
