Good point, and if you read the bible you find many contradictions that make christianity look ever more idiotic.

Not quite. I think you're getting a little giddy over a semantical argument that actually doesn't work. Here is an analogy: Congress says people under 21 can't drink. Congressmen are all above 21, and so they can all drink. It's not hypocritical - now it would be hyprocritical is they said no one could drink and then they went out and drank. Similarly, God only said we can't kill. Why? I don't know, but it probalby has something to do with God understands when it is someones time to go and when it is not, plus he created all of us and can take us out when he wants. Also God doesn't kill out of hate like humans do.

Perhaps though you're confused about the exception part - the don't kill unless I say so - except he only said don't kill. Laws have exceptions. Don't run a red light doesn't apply if you're an ambulance rushing someone to a hospital. Of course, when you read the law, it doesn't say: Thou shalt not run red lights, unless: a,b,c,d,e,f... and list hundreds of exceptions. Because at some point, you're going to have to generalize - there are an infinte amount of of possible scenarios. Also remember that it is a rule God gave, and he can take it away. If your mom says don't touch that! And then later you're allowed to touch the lamp one time, that is not hypocritcal.

So what we need to do as a Christian Nation is to lay down all of our
military power and LET whosoever wants to come here and kick us out of our homes, rape our wives and daughters and tell them while they are
doing their thing "thou shalt not kill".
Freedom is NOT FREE.Go and look at all the military cemetery's
with the rows and rows of white crosses and tell me "Thou Shalt Not Kill" What a ridiculous question !
Why God gave the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill" was to stop
people from killing like CAIN when he cold blooded killed his brother
without a reason.

"It is not hypocritical in any way. God gives life, and he alone has the right to take it."

Thank you so much for proving the point exactly, stullerhg.
*GOD* has the right to kill indescriminately. Not Man. If God wants a country struck from the earth, he has plenty enough power to do it himself. He should not give laws down to man to follow, and then expect them to break them in his name. Especially since no war fought in the name of faith had *anything* to do with Word down from On High. It's all politics and money. Not faith.

The commandment is speaking of malicious intent - murder. People often confuse this with not killing at all, even in self-defense, but this incorrect.

The life you have is a gift from God, and you have the right and the obligation to defend it, even if it means taking the life of someone else who is trying to take yours. Police officers also have the right to defend themselves and others, even with deadly force. Soldiers serving their country also have the same right.

Again, the commandent is talking about murder, not self-defense or protecting someone else's life.

God is God

We are men

God can do whatever God wants, He doesnt need us, dont try to put God in a Box, because He wont fit. The ten commandments are made for men.

So then some of us really have been paying attention to the hypocrisy of our regime? Bush is a blasphemer just for bringing his faith into the "let's go into Iraq for these humanitarian issues!" It's all bullshite.. War is over (if you want it) Lennon and Oko
"An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth and the whole world would soon be blind and toothless." ...

The correct translation is "thou shall not commit murder". Some translators assumed people would have enough intelligence to understand "kill" in the proper context. You prove them wrong.

look at it this way....in the US today we have laws that say you can't kill anyone right (except abortion, but thats murder too and should be illegal)? But it's legal for soldiers to kill people in war. It's the same way with God! It's wrong to kill someone, except under circumstances like war that needs to be fought.
