Volkswagen's are kinda notorious for many problems. They have one of the highest extended warranty prices in the industry (a good factor to long term reliability & cost of repair).
They are good cars as far as design and the way they drive and all the dynamics of vehicle pleasure, so only a good bet if you only intend to own it while the factory warranty is in place.

What year model?I have sold over 100 beetle's.In the years I have been selling them, people still come in wanting a new one,and previous Beetle owners are looking to trade up to a newer model. The 2006 offers a great value, that is fun to drive.2.5 engine with a 6 speed tiptronic transmission.Has better handeling and better ride than any car in it's class. If you like the way a Beetle looks, you can do no better in the 20,000 price range.vwjcook@yahoo.com

How about considering a Honda Civic instead. The '06's are pretty hot, fairly inexpensive and the Civic will definately last you longer than a Beetle will, and be pretty problem-free at the same time.

All V W's seem to eventually have electrical problems. And that is expensive as hell to fix.
