I've been thinking about breaking up with my boyfriend of 2 years. Weve lived an extravagent life and I dont want to give that up. We never signed a prenup, so can I take my boyfriend to court for alimony if we break up?

Why not pay him alimony?

You guys were never married. A prenup and alimony is only used when there is marriage in a picture. No court can help you in this situation. On the other hand if you had a child but there was no marriage then you can get child support and the courts will help

If you want to get something from you boyfriend you have to be smart

Cannot get alimony unless you have been married. There is basically 3 things that have to have happened at the same time to be legally married (common law). First you guys must have had some joint account (banking, credit card, ect...) Second you must have lived with each other (the period of time of living together is NOT important) Thirdly, and this is the biggest. You and he MUST have announced yourself as being married. He must have at some point told people that you are his wife, and you must have announced yourself as being, and signed some legal documents as being Mrs....Sorry, but just living with someone, regardless of the time, it not enough to have been considered married.

Hi. No alimony if you were never married but you might be able to get some 'palimony' if you can prove he led you into a lifestyle that kept you from being independent of him. But without a prenup, it will be tough. You'd be pressed to prove it with witnesses and hard evidence to present.
BTW.... judging from your pic, you are HOT girl!

Im a corn dog? I'm a bad ugly dog! I think some States will treat your relationship as a marriage if you had kids and been living together over a year!

this is why you should get married instead of living together. oh, and why don't you try to find a job instead of living off of your man. haven't women come further than that???

After reading about Felching, I don't blame you for wanting to break up with him, but you cannot collect alimony from him.

Dunno about Palimony though.

Good luck.
