Well Red, this is an easy one.
Especially if it is family.
The first response was (in a nutshell) the correct response. They deserve the points. I just want to elaborate as I have in the past worried about others opinions of myself instead of being strong.
People (family included) will respect you more for expressing your thoughts and views in a non-disparraging way then if you consistantly agree or bow out of confrontation with another.
You have your opinions. Do not be ashamed of them, be proud of them. As long as you do not put another one down for their opinions they should not do the same for you.
So, do what number 1 said politely and express yourself. If someone wants to argue with you. Let them no that your reasons for how your feel are your own. They probably wouldn't understand why you feel this way. If you can explain yes that is great. But do not get lured into an argument. Just agree to disagree if things get hot.
One more thing, Do not badmouth or put anothers views down. Just respect how they feel and find another subject to discuss.
Hugs,
Jeff

It really depends... some people you can never disagree with because they will NEVER SHUT UP...
but you can just tell the family member.. we are all entitled to our own opinions and it seems allot of us or I am just speaking up for myself. We are afraid to tell you that our views differ from yours.
Trust me it is better to politely speak up than to sit there and get worked up inside for the rest of your life.. Just do it kindly... it might work, but if the person is like really stubborn, at least you tried.. Give it a try.
Try to talk to other family members to.. maybe an intervention.

When I’m trying to get something out in a situation where I want to avoid trouble, I attempt to phrase my position to say how it makes me feel. They can’t really argue with how you feel, and you get your point across. Don’t know if that helps, but good luck. I’m sorry to hear someone in your family makes you feel afraid.

If you disagree with something, say so. The more you stand up for yourself, the less afraid you'll be. Trust me.

either just come out and tell them, but chances are if u are afraid to disagree you would be afraid to tell them that too. writing a letter helps, and makes it easier to say what you mean

It depends on the person...
If they are stubborn and tough to talk to,
then it won't be easy.
But come out with it and be truthful yet loving.
Don't be bitterly honest.
