I have heard ranting on religious radio station about this. Surely Harry is the 'good' fighting the 'evil' that is Vordemont; bit like David and Goliath (a popular biblical story); or jesus against the devil in the wilderness. I just wonder that's all!

I think because the Harry Potter series touch on something that some religious people can't understand. People fear what they don't understand. Most religious people don't even take to time to understand the different religions nor do they tolerate any deviance from what they believe is the one 'true' religion. Harry Potter is the creation of a very imaginative mind and personally, I don't mind my children reading the books or watching the movies. It's about good versus evil and good conquering, and I agree it is similiar to David and Goliath and other biblical stories. I am dissappointed that people have to rant and rave about something that is harmless imagination, I mean wasn't Barney harmless imagination? Or the Teletubbies? What about most of the TV shows that are on Noggin that preschoolers watch like Maggie and the Ferocious Beast and Connie the Cow? (I have a 4 year old by the way, lol that's how I know all these)

Why do u think? It has witchcraft! Harry might be a good guy or whatever, but that doesn't make it right. It isn't at all like David and Goliath. Sure it might have the same good vs. evil thing, but Harry Potter has witchcraft, and the bible clearly says that Christians should not associate with witchcraft.

My theory is this...it's fiction. When I read the books it doesn't' make me scared that Voldemort is gonna come get me. I also didn't think bears could talk after I watched Jungle Book. I am a Sunday school teacher and don't hide the fact that I enjoy the Harry Potter series. Some people might disagree with me but I feel there are a lot worse things I could be reading or using to occupy my time.

I'm a Christian and I love Harry Potter!

If I were a parent, however, I would have a little problem with my kids reading/watching it because Harry and the kids never listen to the adults, they're always running off and not obeying authority in school. That's probably why some people don't like it.

I've never seen it, but I hear the movie romanticizes witchcraft. Both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible contain references that say to avoid it in no uncertain terms.

The reason some Christians are "ranting" about it is that it is marketed specifically toward our children. Not good.

I am a Christian. I am also a huge Harry Potter fan. I also celebrate Halloween, and I love the Wizard of Oz.
The "evil wizard's" name is Voldemort.
Some people take themselves far too seriously. For some reason they think that, if they are having a good time, they must be sinning. As if God never smiles...

yes God smiles and he has a sense of humor.....but he also is very clear that we should stay clear of all witchcraft.....and for those Christians who think they can have their cake and eat it too....by partaking of witchcraft by means of books and movies no matter how childlike it is or disguised it is and such are in rebellion of gods instructions to his children and are being disobedient ....he states in the bible that rebellion is as witchcraft.....you are only fooling yourself....Christians dont have to stoop to disobedience and rebellion to have a good time.....you cant have it both ways....
1 Samuel 15:23
For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king."

I just don't like his goofy glasses!

You would think he could find a pair magical contact lenses or something like that. Those things look ridiculous!
