The same thing that happened to you when you "transcended" your belief in Santa Claus: We'll grow up and get smart.

The same thing that happens to all things when they die. They rot and are eaten by worms, leaving only bones - which also disintigrate over time. Moral of the story: "Live like it's your only life, and die with no regrets".

No fireworks, no man in the sky speaking to me, or anything like that.
"Trancending" the manmande boundaries of religion, to me, simply means freedom. To choose, to be happy, free to own up to mistakes, free to correct them, free to feel pride in my accomplishments as my own doing, free to not do good deads for rewards in an afterlife but for the good in just doing good. Free to not live by manmade rules, but to understand the total relativity of those ethics as manmade - and free to be me, as I please, so long as I hurt no others.
That's it. It's very simple, actually. No prizes or fireworks or anything going off by "transcending" religion. Just freedom.

I don't think humans will ever transent religion. It sees to be anesential need. I think that religion will continue to evolve as it has in the past.

We will finally have peace on earth when we get rid of the religions who worship a god who kills our loved ones at whim.
