Hyundai has successfully beaten honda in reliability and quality for the past two years and have there guns on Toyota next!
Who here believes Hyundai will surpass Toyota?
Here are some Hyundai victories
hyundai azera vs toyota avalon
winner:hyundai azera
hyundai sonata vs toyota camry
victor:Hyundai sonata
Hyundai is also beating Toyota in driver satsifaction too.
So I think it will be a matter of time before this Korean juggernaut surpasses Toyota in reliability they just have one more step then Toyota is done.
Those Koreans are really starting to mess up the Japanese perception that only Japanese can make reliable
cars.Same with Samsung and Sony!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder how long it will take for Hyundai to have a good consumer perception after all they having been making garbage until year 2002!!!

One thing is that Toyota develops a good product and sticks with it. Name one which was of a bad design. I've had a 89 camry with 500,000 miles on it and never had to replace any engine parts except the filters, and battery. I also had a 89 corolla with 300,000 miles with the same situation. I had a 99 civic and put 200,000 miles on it with no problems at all.
Did you know that the same engine which was in my 89 camry was also used in the 1996-2000 Rav 4. Over 10 years with an engine design.
I can't say the same with Hyundai given their track record. My cousin had a 90 excel, which at the time was supposed to be compatible to a corolla. It never made it past 120,000 miles before the engine just quit. Others have had the same problems. That is why its rare to find a 80s and early 90s Hyundai on the road, unlike the many Toyotas and Hondas we pass by everyday on our way to work.
Another thing Hyundai is not a new company. They have been around since 1946. Toyota has been around since 1934 and Honda has been around 1948 making motorcycles and didn't make their first car since 1962. So really if you go by the numbers they should be on equal territory.
Toyota and Honda spent alot of time and money on reasearch while Hyundai spent more time just trying to get a product out on the market.
Yes Hyundai is getting better than they were, but they still don't compare. Awards mean nothing. Reputation means everything. Alot of vehicles win awards, but how many of them are still on the road after 5-10 years? Any car can be given a reliability award with only 2 years of operation. So that award is just pulling a name out of a hat. The way it should be judged is the after 5 year mark and the after 300,000 mile mark. Then lets see who tops the list.

Maybe that was true to some extent 10-15 years ago, though it was also true that people mistreated those original Hyundai cars by neglecting to do the proper maintenance. At any rate you can do a search and see that Hyundai has been world class for a decade now and has been top rated by JD Power, Consumer Reports and car buyers for the last 5 years. Yes, Hyundai is just as good as any other brand, though you can't go wrong with a Honda and despite some recent issues Toyota still makes a fine car. I agree with the 1st post, Ford builds some quality vehicles now and are worth looking at, same for Nissan/Subaru/Mazda/Kia, I'd pretty much steer clear of European brands and the other 2 American nameplates (especially Chrysler who has ranked near the bottom for decades). Depending on what Hyundai model you are looking at it will be either built in USA or South Korea.

I have been associated with the car business alll of my life . Started working in my father's auto body shop in 1948, became an auto insurance appraiser/ adjuster in 1966 and built show cars and worked on the first Honda and Toyota cars on the market. The first Hyundai cars, the Excel was not a good car but people did not know that the engine running gear was Toyota built by Hyundai for 10 years. They would run forever but the bodies fell alart. That all changed. I have been renting for the last year for long trips and the Hyundai Sonata is the best of the bunch. I have access to aYear old Toyota Camry hybrid and the Sonata runs circles around it. Sonata is smoother, quieter, handles better, I think, and gets close to the same milage. Sonata at 38 mpg as to 40 for Toyota. Real world driving. The Sonata has a better warranty than all of them. The average person keeps a car 3 to 5 years today so sonata will still be under warranty at the end of the
ownership. Think about it. Money is money.

Old toyota vs old hyundai Toyota wins. But new toyota vs new hyundai Hyundia wins hands down. Don't believe in my toyota ran 500000 miles these are made up stories. Don't believe consumer reports they just rely on feedback report send. CARMD went through the real automobile repairs data and found Hyundai is the only model which makes least number of visits to mechanic compared to any model including Toyota. Use your brains Toyota is very good in marketing.

I believe Toyota is only one of Japanese brand cars. There are much more Japanese cars that is better than Hyundai Sonta. Overall, Toyota have the more cars sold than Hyundai because of the performance and quality.
Lexus is part of Toyota.
Lexus RC-F Vs Hyundai Sonta
Winner: Lexus RC-F
And think about Nissan GTR, it beat out Hyundai Genesis.
Overall, Japanese still in the game and they will eventually beat out Hyundai again.

I owned a 2006 huyndai elantra and it fell apart after the 5 year warranty expired. I took immaculate care of this vehicle...washe'd and waxed it weekly and it started to rust out after a few years. Hyundai wouldn't fix any of the rust because it wasnt through the panels. Broken tierods at 65k, cat converter went at 70k and hyundai tried to back out of emissions warranty but I pushed until they honored it. Left caliper froze at 62k miles, brake lines needed replaced at 67k. Power window motors both died within the same month at 100k, and the drivers window fell off the track around the same time. O2 sensor went at 82k...I could go on and on...I would never buy another hyundai even if it was offered at half msrp. My 2003 Toyota sequoia has 225k miles and it has been flawless with only routine maintenance and a few sensors replaced at 220k miles. It drives as good as it did when new.I will continue to purchase toyota bc they build quality. Hyundai not so much. .

Toyota still has very good reliability records, despite of the recalls. Thankfully after the recalls, Toyota still manages to fix the car quality. And unlike Sony, Toyota still tries its best to maintain its position as the top company of the automobile industry. As what the Toyota workers said, "the car companies that we have to concern now are no longer Mercedes and BMW but Hyundai and KIA. We don't want another Sony dilemma happened to us."
Honda cars are also still very good, although the reliability is slightly lower than Toyota. The engine is well-made and car design looks slightly better than Toyota. And thankfully, Honda still tries to be not collapse like Sony.
Hyundai cars used to be not very good when I was younger, but recently Hyundai cars are getting really good too. One my friend from High School who owned a Hyundai Sonata told that Hyundai's car quality now is trying to catch up with Toyota's car quality.
I find both Japanese and Korean cars still outscore any European cars for reliability. American cars I find to okay, satisfactory quality. Although I find most American cars are too big for me.

I agree with your assessment.I bought a Tuscon Limited this year and maxed it out. It is a little thirsty on the fuel, but does great for an SUV. If you had told me a couple of years ago I would buy a Hyundai a couple of years ago, I wold have laughed in your face. Toyota makes a good product and has market recognition and buyer loyalty. However the warranty and the vastly improved product of Hyundai will attract new buyers. Do I see them taking the market share from Toyota? Not any time soon. But keep in mind, Toyota started out as economy cars.
