I live in a 2 room condo. I try to lock out my cat, but it scratches at my bedroom door. And scratches, and scratches, and scratches. When I let him in, he attackes the curtains. Help me sleep!

I also live in a condo, and my kitten Milo is also like that. =)
Maybe they're seperated at birth, haha. It's like he doesn't know that the moon means it's sleeping time for normal humans.
Anyway. If you can, keep him up during the day. I know for certain that when I play with him during the day, he gets it out of his system and falls asleep next to me. You need to burn some of his energy off. Good luck!

Oh, I might add that when you keep him up while he's napping, he might give you a rather irritated look or try to hide from you and sleep. Just try your best to keep him active. =)

And also.. Dont lock him out or keep him in another room or in the garage(shame on you guys for suggesting that). Kittens need A LOT of attention. Thats why kittens arent the best pets for people that are constantly at work. If you lock him out, he'll just get worse and get lonely.

Well , I mus admit I never lock my kittens out from my bedroom, I love my snuggle bugs. But I have 3, 10 week old kittens and completely understand! The suggestion on playing with them during the day more helps, but by nature they are little night machines. I would get lots of toys and even a cat tunnel. I have a full size kid tunnel that pops open...was a good investment at 10 bucks because the kittens love it! I do get to sleep until about 4am at least, until the "Licking Brigade" come in and go to town on me..lol So I snuggle for a few minutes and off they go again doing their own thing. Gl with getting some sleep!

If you want to make kitty sleep, play with him a lot when you get home up until the time you need to sleep. Also, on weekends, interrupt his cat naps during the day. Basically what you are doing is putting him on your schedule. If he gets really bad, you can always kennel him while you sleep. This will also train him to settle down or that evenings are settle down time.

Be patient, however, as cats are nocturnal animals. They are use to being up during the night and sleeping during the day. Also, the more you keep him up in the day, they more you take away from his sleep time. Cats sleep about 75% of the day away. So the more you keep him away, especially between say 5pm and 11pm, the more rest-full night you will have.

Good Luck.

Awwwwwww, you have a new BABY!!!! Welcome to motherhood!!!

The good news is, he'll grow out of this. The bad news is -- it takes a while. I would suggest playing with him hard and heavy a bit before bedtime so he gets tuckered out. Also, leaving him in the room and putting him out after he wakes you will START to teach him to not wake you up. It takes a while, and it means you have to get up and down, but they do learn. Cats are nocturnal and want to PLAY at night -- especially kittens. You can wake him up when he's sleeping in the evening, and then play a lot before bedtime and he may start to sleep through the night. It's basically trial and error of what works with your particular kitty.
Good luck -- and enjoy this age. It passes too quickly!

If the kitten is not fixed fix him or her. Scratching is how cats mark their place. Also, if the cat is getting positive results from scratching at the door (you letting him in), then he has established a pattern that is hard to retrain.
have special toys for him for night time only
do not have on any lights, tv, radio, etc. its like hampsters that are born to be awake at night, it takes time but you can train them to be asleep then. The cat has to learn when its time to sleep and time to play.....play him out before bed... lazer lights are great!!!!!

Put it in a kennel for a night, even if it cries and scratches. It should get used to being alone. Then let it run it out. (My family stuck the cat in the garage, and now he never sleeps in the room, exept for when he gets tired. We let him run it out, which is the easy way.) Good Luck!

Water spray bottle. Spray it when it does something naughty. He doesn't know that he's keeping you up, he is after all nocturnal. He'll associate the "naughty behaviour" with the yucky wet feeling and give it up. Don't get up and pat him or you will be reinforcing the naughtiness.

It might take a couple of nights, but if you don't sort him out now- he'll be doing this as an adult.

Have fun (during the day) with your "naughty" kitten :)

Get cat scratching post and climbing toys. If it likes to play with string hang some from the ceiling. Keep him occupied.

Cats are nocturnal - so they are up at night. You should establish a play time with him every night (about the same time) - like after dinner...then play with him until he is tired.

I would also get enough toys so that you can rotate them (i.e. he always seems to have new toys). Here is a link with more cat info - there is a link about the importance of play:

Cats are nocturnal creatures. That is what they do. Before you go to bed play with your cat, get a string or feather etc. and make your cat work for it. If you wear him out before you go to bed maybe he will too. He probably will outgrow it eventually
