I am beginning to think you are not so dumb - just left wing, which is nearly as bad! Atheists probably don't worship anything - they are far to busy getting on with their lives. Agnostics might give it a bit more consideration - but they too are probably just as busy. What you should be worshipping is - education - and the first thing you should educate yourself in, is other peoples languages - which really will help you with your other question about foreigners (Answering two question at once here - there's economy for you!) - because the more languages you can speak the more comprehensive your education will become. Being an American - this is a handicap - but one you can overcome through education - you have educated Americans like Michael Moore for instance - but before you go on to other languages, you first need to learn our language - not least because it is the international business language (It was nearly spanish you know - but I digress - that is another story!). It's not all doom and gloom though, the one thing you Americans do do well - is RISK - take the Big Dig in Boston, something like that, (which we desperately need) would never happen in Central London. We are far to mean and cautious - we English are very bad at risk. I hope this has been of help - and goes someway to answering you question. Do try and do something about being left wing though - it is not logical or natural! Unfortunately Darwin's Law of Natural Selection rules us and the Animals on this world - if there is a god it is Manou - I hope I have spelt that correctly - it is bigger than God or the Devil put together, for it is - Manou, which is the occults name for Nature - see the film Witchcraft - the precursor to the highly successful AMERICAN (back to risk again) TV series - CHARMED, which I expect you are very familiar with !!!!

I can't speak for other atheists, but I can at least define the word for you, which may help.

It's from Latin, where the "a" part means "outside of" (like "amoral", somebody without morals).

The "theist" part means "religion" (like in "theology"). So the word "atheist" only defines what they DON'T believe. It says nothing at all about what they DO believe.

Therefore atheists don't HAVE to believe in anything at all - although that would technically make them nihilists.

However I would like to think that most atheists are humanists. They believe that humans are the solution to the world's problems. Obviously if you look at the state of the world this could be a very irrational belief, but everybody's got to have faith in something:-)

Better to worship the reality of modern thinking than to hide within the confines of religion. Show me a religion other than atheism that has never used it's belief to kill others and start wars, there are very few. religion causes separation and confusion, those that it doesn't affect in this way are usually zealots and mindless bigots. Public religion is barbed wire.

Some other atheist 'gods' are Rationality, Evidence, Nature and Creativity. These are favoured by the more serious-minded atheist, whereas the 'party atheist' may well bestow honour upon the gods you mention.
