Obviously it's two, but I know lots of people will say it's one and that it's pronounced 'skwirl', but those people are stupid. So how do you say it?

I know it all depends on dialect and accent really, I'm just wondering how other people pronounce it.

Of course I want to comment on your first cinquain! As you have probably seen by my myriad posts, this is one of my favorite forms. I do love how you take it and give it your own distinct voice. The world needs less obviously "profound" poetry. What you have given us is the profound beyond the observable, the realization that everything is beautiful and deserves notice, and that joy is found in the smallest of things, watching a cat on the prowl, hearing a squirrel barking in the tree. No, dear Cyn, you are perhaps one of the most profound poets I know.

First, I use one syllable. I have NEVER heard it said with 2.
Secondly, in the dictionary, both pronunciation keys are given.
Thirdly. to assume someones level of intelligence based solely on how they choose to say a word, shows the level of ignorance that exists within your minuscule cranium.

Yeah, it has two syllables, but I pronounce it with one. I also pronounce "iron" with one syllable. It's a dialect thing. There's nothing wrong with it, if you know it's technically incorrect.

That depends on where you live; dialect. I am originally from STL and I called them squir-rels, 2 syllables. Now I'm down south and they say skwirls. Well, i'm nauralized, i used to say yuse, now it's yall..

I say it with two. Like people always say I pronounce 'caramel' wrong when I say it with 3 syllables.
