I'm planning on teaching 11th grade American History. And yes, I will care very much about all my students. I know what high school can be like (been there, done that), and I think kids just need more support from their teachers sometimes. A teacher shouldn't just be somebody the kid listens to yack about the Civil War for an hour and then walk out to lunch. A teacher should provide information, intelligence, doubt and consideration to each topic. Really encourage kids to think and apply what they learn. Everyone knows "Teddy Roosevelt", but 80% of students probably can't say what number president he was or name a single thing that was important about him. And that's sad because he's part of the American culture that we grow up in every day. I want to be able to change that. Even if it's just ONE kid that listens to me and goes on to do something great, that's at least one more kid than there was yesterday. Right?

Yes, high school and middle school. I will care and I want them to succeed. I will be teaching English and History, so that means that I will teach my students proper English skills and I will teach them all about William Shakespeare and Edgar Allan Poe. I will teach them World History and Ancient History, as well as US History and Phrases from History. I will not wash everything down like my instructors back in school did for me. I will be forward and tell my students that when they get to Community College, State College, University, or a Private College, they will thank me for teaching them the subjects that I will be teaching them. Children are not that stupid, they know more than you think they might know, they just need guidance. Direction. They need to learn how to solve their problems in a dignified and responsible manner. You can be their friend, but they are not really looking for a friend they are looking for a teacher and a leader. A mentor or instructor. Be the teacher. Show them the way.
