Depends on the relationship. Depends on the guy. If you have been going out a long time and you know he won't get violent you probably owe it to him to do it in person. If it has been a very short-term thing or he's unpredictable than go with the note.

The other option is to do a combination of the two. Write your note and give it to him; remain while he reads it and deal with his response. Or get the note to him and in it suggest a time you guys can meet for closure.

The advantage of a note for some people is that they can get their thoughts together a little better than in person. If you've made up your mind, respect him enough not to put it off. Even if this guy has been a jerk, you will have the upper hand when ending things so try to consider his feelings as much as possible. Good luck.

In person. Only a coward uses a note. And if you try it, the first thing he's going to do is come see you. After all, how does he not the note isn't a fake or something?

it prolly wont matter, either way it sucks to be him. What would make you feel better?

Because if you are dumping him, its probably all about you anyways! If he's a jerk, then I guess he dumped himself!

If you want to remain friends, do it in person- he will still be bummed, but at least when he is over it, he will respect you more and forgive you. A note is very impersonal, cowardly and cold. If you fear him- use the note for Pete's sake!

If you are just afraid to feel guilty, suck it up- you deserve to feel guilty because you ARE guilty of hurting his feelings- this dont make you a bad person, but you should face up to your mistakes. Your mistake was getting committed to a person before you knew him well enough to know he was the one for you- otherwise, youd still wanna be with him.

In person is more honest n truthful. He deserves to be told in person. But if u really feel uncomfortable to do it in person or u cant bear 2 see him heart broken, then thats where a note comes in. But in person would be much better.

You don't mention your age, but as long as you are in no physical danger from him, it's always best to discuss the situation and break the news in person that you no longer wish to be with him.

You may have to deal with the fact that you are causing him hurt feelings. This is normal, and no matter what, you will feel uncomfortable seeing a hurt you have caused. Just be honest with him, then when you are done, be on your way. Don't hang around unless he asks you to.

Don't expect him to want to be "friends" with you right away. When someone's feelings are hurt, it takes time to get past it. Just be patient.

i agree with him^^ up thur, if your close then in person is better so he will understand and hopefully have a chance of being friends, if you could care less and ur just trying to get it over w/so you can move on then note or email would be easy. but by doing that shows you are scared. in person is much better, depending on how shy you are.

How close were the two of you?

If you were close, then you have to do it in person and talk to him if you hope to remain friends.

If you weren't close and just don't care about him anymore, you could use a note.

Really, you should tell him in person. Notes show that you are too scared to do it in person.
