I thought you holy-rollers thought atheism wasn't a religion?
Church is for religion, School is for learning facts. There is your separation of church and state. (Where is your concern on this matter when Dubya is out there fighting a holy war over in Iraq right now?)
Science is fact. Science is not atheism. Athesim is the belief that god does not exist.

It's not brainwashing anyone. It teaches kids how to respect other people's beliefs, customs and traditions. Religion is one massive part of the world, it is a crucial factor in our history, who we are, why we do some of the things we do. It is everywhere, and it is why there are wars and conflicts, and why there is racism and homophobia, sexism e.t.c. So teaching our kids about religion is teaching them about our world and other peoples worlds. More importantly, no matter what religion they may be, it teaches them to love and respect others. And how can the children make decisions for themselves if they do not know what things there are for them to believe. If you don't teach them they wont understand, and when people don't understand something, they reject it and that's where the discrimination, misunderstanding and hatred starts. My dad was Atheist, my mother and her partner are christian and my R.E teacher was muslim. I was brought up being taught about loads of different religions and no one ever brainwashed me. I new i was able to make my own decisions, and if it were not for my RE lessons at school, i would not be as open minded as i am today. Just think about it, and by the way by saying that being Agnostic is the best and that all other religions brainwash people into believing it.....you are saying that your religion is right and all others are wrong, mabye you can be a little more open minded

What exactly is "atheist brainwashing" ? I can only assume you mean evolution, since many consider this to be an atheistic theory. But evolution is based on volumes and volumes of hard, scientific facts. The facts and evidence speak for themselves, those who truly understand everything about evolution know this. I have found that most people who are against evolution (including those who call it brainwashing) know next to nothing about it, and are speaking mostly on their gut or their emotions.
And yes, in the U.S., there is a division between state and religion, but how does that relate to your question ?? Atheism is not a religion. Look up religion in the dictionary. Beliefs based around supernatural beings or phenomena. Atheism is simply the denial of supernatural "god", therefore it cannot be a religion. Common misconception.

Atheism is a religion. It has a theology, in that God has an attribute of non-existence. Much blood has been shed in the name of this religion (e.g. the victims of Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot etc.).
I can see that teaching evolution is not necessarily teaching atheism, but the controversy over Intelligent Design (which as far as I can see it is evolution, but acknowledging the possibility of God's involvement in the process) indicates that some seem to want to insist that no interpretation of evolution other than an atheistic one should be allowed in schools, which IS atheistic brainwashing. I am not an American, but from my side of the pond it appears that some people are trying to use the Constitution's forbidding of the establishment of religion as an equivalent of the Soviet Constitution's "freedom of anti-religious propaganda".

Well, you got the "Dumb American" part right.
Since Atheism is the lack of belief in something, it can't be 'taught' as brainwashing, and it isn't a religion for tax purposes. The only people who call Atheism a religion are the ones who can't understand how to live without Blind Faith in authority figures.
I'm sure that the 'religion page' in the newspaper makes up for any lack of religion in school, or don't you read the newspaper? Following the president's lead there?

Good question? I'm from england and we are blessed that Jesus can be taught within schools across the country. People forget that when they talk about the theory of evolution, bag bang they are actually still preaching religion to a degree. Atheism is another form of religion they just deny it. So if religion should be stopped in schools in the States then that means everything everyone believes in should be stopped. The Governmentt wouldn't actually like that. I know that the children in the schools even have to pledge allegence to the flag every single day. This is religion in its truest form.
My suggestion to you is that you change your name you are not dumb and God doesn't so neither.

That is the division. By religion not being taught in schools is a division of state from religion. And my guess is that when you are talking about religion, you are talking about Christianity. Which there is nothing wrong with it...except this is not what all people believe in. What about Jewish,Muslim, and Buddhist beliefs? This is specifically why "religion" (Christiany/Protestant beliefs) are NOT being taught in school, b/c the government has finally caught on that not all people are Christians...and there is nothing wrong with that. If you want to send you kid to a religious school, that is fine,as it's your money, prerogative and choice.

What school do you go to? I attended a public school and Im not christian and continuously felt like I was having christianity shoved down my throat! Maybe it's all in where you attend. But to answer your question, In this instance, no there is no legal seperation between church and state in regards to educational facilities...
"Separation of church and state refers to the limits our Constitution places on the power of the government (both federal and state) to legislate about religion.
Our belief (one shared by the vast majority of legal and historical scholars who have studied the issue) is that the Constitution places religion almost wholly outside the reach of government. In particular, we believe that the Constitution delegates no power to government over religious affairs, and that the First Amendment explicitly prohibits the government from establishing or controlling religion. The effect of this arrangement is to leave Americans free to worship, believe, and support religion as they see fit. Additionally, we believe that separation deprives government of its ability to coerce adherence to religion, or to compel the support of religion against an individual's will. "
-Supreme Court's majority opinion in Everson v. Board of Education (1947; Justice Black writing for the court).
Quite the contrary, it almost seems to outlaw the idea that religon CAN be banished from schools! Which is why the liberals and the Christian conservitives are in such a battle over it!

Nobody forces you to believe science, and of course science is all crap, that is why computers don"t work, God made computers work? And God invented Cars and Medicine and space craft?
I loved it back in the 1960s when the fundamentalists wanted the space program stopped because they figured it would be wrong to be firing rockets at God and that we might hit the Throne of Him, and the "normal" Christians backed them on it.
Next time your car breaks down take it to church and pray over it, sprinkle some Holy Water on it and cast out its sins. There is a reason for teaching "Science" and it has nothing to do with atheism. It is because it works and if you don't "Get" that then you deserve to be living in the Sacred and Holy and Superstitious past and dieing of the diseases that Science has learnt to cure. Back to the dark ages with you I say, and take a witch and a Satanist or two with you too burn!

Too bad religion is a tool of and for the perpetuation of ignorance.
Atheism isn't a religion, it's the natural state of all things - holy in the ways of the Earth.
Religion is a plague visited upon us by the evil men of the past in an attempt to rot our society from the inside.
