Intelligent arguments in the Religious Section ?

Question

I always thought specially religion is a nice subject to think about, to discuss, and to disagree on. I know lots of Christians I have the most beautiful debates with. We will never agree, but i truly think we both learn and grow from those debates.

Latety i have the feeling this forum can best change its name to "Atheist vs Christian Fight".
it's (and i randomly copy two given answers now):

"when are you atheists going to get a life and stop Mocking, harassing, judging, conemning, Disrespecting, And Insulting Believers On This Religious/Spiritual Site!......Are You Jealous Because you don't know GOD and don't have a personal relationship with GOD like the Believers Do!!!...You guys must be very UNHAPPY!......MISERY LOVES COMPANY!"

versus

"Christians are sooooooooooo stupid with there stupid boooook!!! There is no GOD, YOU DUMBNUTS!!!!! It's ALL fake!!!"

Any thoughts on how to stop this shallow debate?

I think a good place to start is for Y!A to rig it so that pressing the Caps Lock button (or the Alt-V button) immediately causes the window to close...

First of all, stop giving these people ANY attention. I am an Atheist. I will never have arguments over my lack of beliefs. Nor would I expect any person to push their religion on me. I am almost jealous that I don't believe there is something better waiting in "heaven". I am an evolutionist, I see it, it is proven, therefore I believe it. This topic for the arguers (I feel) are a way to generate power. People feel there needs to be a right and a wrong in every discussion, and THIS will start a war. It has been this way for hundreds of years. People can't even agree on the simplest of things. It's a huge embarrassment to those of us sitting back and watching. Please (Christians) do not email me with comments on my Atheist choice. I am neutral. I want to be left alone. And I will do the same for every religious person I cross. Have a good night. :)

If people would just give each other a little respect, act like adults instead of 2 year olds with absurd selfish argments and name calling, and accept that fact, in America at least we have freedom of religion, and everybody has a mind of thier own to believe what we want regardless of what others may think, we would all go along way to having funner debates, but its never going to happen here.

Actually its not all shallow.. ive gotten some real insights into how people think on christianity from this answer forum. Sure you have lots of dumb people that are closed minded and dont even judge their own thinking before writing something really insane.. but that to me doesnt forfiet the gain.

no, but not every athiest isnt this rude.

..many Christians don't realize some of these atheists have found god, and chose not to follow god.

and still Christians try to almost violently force their opinion on anyone and everyone who will read. its awful. its rude. its inconsiderate. atheists aren't always as purely immature as the example you chose to represent the atheists side of things.

I went to church every week of my life when I was young. I was forced to believe something I had no opinion of my own in. now that I have discovered there are other points of view, and that I have the right to believe whatever I want to believe, I’m kind of upset that all these people are trying to push everyone like cattle into a belief.

I don’t want god anymore. I will worship god in the way that I choose, when I choose. I will not go to church, I will not give part of my income to a church. pastors today treat the job as the head of the church as their full-time job. it shouldn’t be. they should not be able to afford nice cars, solely on the income the church makes. its disgusting. I have not found a single church yet that does a wonderful amount of good for the surrounding community, and I’ve lived in 3 parts of the US. one of them was even in the middle of the bible belt, and the majority of all the pastors there did the same thing, drove a beat up truck to church, and then drove their nice new BMW they traded in every year for the latest model around as their 2nd vehicle.

I don’t care if god is a he, or a she, or an it, or a they. I respect god in my own way, and that’s all that matters. so does most everyone else. I’ve even overheard atheists saying things like "god hates me" and other things. so it really cuts both ways.

people really need to open their eyes to whats really going on, and to think before they speak, but for some this is like asking a pre-schooler to stay away from a chocolate chip cookie, and then not supervise them. it doesnt work, your just asking them to disobey you.

VERY VERY GOOD question!.............I think everyone has the right to have their opinion and if u are going to post a question then u must let people express what is on their minds! Even if it seems shallow. I think we learn about people in general on this site and learn that others have a different perspective on life and everything else that gets posted. So when i post a question i read what people have to say and makeup my own mind and let people believe what they want. U can not control anothers feelings so u just let them say what they feel is right and let it go.

Can't stop them from posting. Those posters(from both sides) are not really the knowlegeable types else they would've gone to forums that feature intellectual debates. There are many forums like that. But these people resort to taunting and name-calling because that's all they can offer and some skin-deep information. Its not like they have stored knowledge they can talk all day and never run out of it.

it will never stop for 2 reasons 1. people feel very strongly about their beliefs and just know for a fact that whatever they believe in is correct 2. it is somewhat entertaining getting a rise out of people

most people here are just here for fun and may not even believe what they are typing . this is definately not the place to have an intelligent discussion about anything

Ignore it or report it. And the lovely Christians aren't only targetting Athiest but those of us in alternative religions. Atheists are only making it hard to have an intelligent discussion

as the poster who inspired the answer " when are you atheist " i must accept partial blame for that. the question, although meant to be a joke, was on the offensive side. i apologize for that, but cannot promise never to do it again. as for the other person, i don't know why they have to answer people in such a manner. i hope they someday learn to allow people to believe as they want and not to judge.
