I am currently in the process of redecorating my room, and I chose a minimalistic Japanese vibe. Keeping in mind that i want to refrain from busyness and clutter, what are some good accesories I could use in my room that would work with the them? Do you know of any DIY accessories that I could make? Any ideas, or tidbits are welcome! Please share your decorating knowledge with me! ~Thanks~

You don't need much. this style is formed by simple clean lines and very basic needs. a bed a table and a lamp.

check this do it yourself page: http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_bedroom/article/0,,HGTV_3366_4155150,00.html

the twig art there would be very simple.

You can also hang a kimono on the wall over a long stick. better yet make a kimono of your own design from paper or cloth.

shadow lanterns filled with candles are quite easy to do as well. simply use a glass container in the shape you like and apply thin tissue paper(s) with clear glue thined with water to adhere it (like paper mache) you can even use a marker afterward to place a japanese symbol you love on it.

keep it simple and clean.

There are some design principles to get the effect you are looking for:
-Shapes are simple. Colors are often solid, especially in accessories.
-Colors are organic: creams, taupes, black. Also touches of vibrant colors like Chinese red.
-Find a square or rectangular tray. Spray paint it flat black. Put pillar candles (Tall thick ones) or tea lights (small fat short ones) in it.
-Whenever dealing with a grouping always use odd numbers. A grouping of three or five is a more pleasant balance than two or four.
-Add a fountain. One of simple design. And not one of the typical ones full of stones.
-Shoji screens are classic and beautiful. It will go a long way towards getting the effect you want. You can put it in front of your window, if it is tall enough, put your bed on the diagonal from a corner and put it at the head of your bed, somewhat like a headboard (you can store items behind it) shield your closet or simply put it against a wall.
-Buy a bamboo plant if you have some sun exposure in your room (especially the cool twisted ones).
-Use oriental calligraphy on rice paper framed in plain frames (black or red) on the walls. Very striking.
Poke around online under categories like 'Zen furniture' or 'oriental decorating'. You'll see examples you can be inspired by.

Have fun and good luck.

In accordance to Japanese theme you can use a small oriental lamp and maybe a piece of silk or satin drape on the bed to give it a classy feel. You can also use little wooden bowls on your bedside along with an incense stand to make your room smell nice .

Hmmm, house plants, maybe? And get everything off the floor in book cases or on tables - I think that really helps with the clutter feel.
