1 Chonicles 17:4-6
4 “Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD: “You shall not build Me a house to dwell in. 5 For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought up Israel, even to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another. 6 Wherever I have moved about with all Israel, have I ever spoken a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’”’

Is it because it was going to isolate God?

Churches tend to make people separate their spiritual lives from their secular lives. Just like you leave work at work, you leave religion at church.

YOU are God's temple. You take it with you everywhere, therefore, you don't need a building.

God has a temple. In 2 Corinthains, it says that the followers of Jesus are a temple of the Holy Spirit.
Keep reading 1 Chronicles and you will see the context and why God gave that order.

A temple was a way for the people to be closer to God, but after Jesus was crusified there was no need for temples any more. I don't remember the bible verse. But the big thick curtain that seperated the people from the most sacred room was torn in half and that's why we don't need temples anymore (hint, hint to the mormons)

Have you finished reading that book? if you finish it it says that God told David that he will not built a temple for God,but your son Solomon will built me a house. And Solomon, David's son built him a temple that took him a lot of years to built, because it was really big.

It was because David was a man of war. That is why God told him that Solomon would build the temple. It is in one of the books but I don't remember which one.

personally think it's because people might think God only exists within the building. God is where we are, not just in a building.
