This appears to be your first cruise so maybe I should tell you first whay a cruise offers.

Once you are on ship the staff caters to you, its whatever you want. There is something to do all day every day. Each day you will receive a "newsletter" listing the time, place and particulars of each event. You can schedule land tours and activities also during the day and evening when the ship is in port. There are generally shows every evening, one show for those with an early dinner seating and another (same show) for those who eat late. There is always food available. Usually there is a place in ship where you can go get something. Or, you can always just pick up the phone in your cabin and order from the room service menu (food is free). If you want, you can order breakfast room service.

Ships have morning exercise programs, stretching and walking or you can pay for other things like Spinning in the gym. All cruise ships have gyms so you can go workout usually any time from 6:00 AM to late at night. There is usually a walking/running track on one of the decks also. Some ships leave the gym open all night. They call the gyms Spa because they do promote getting pampering stuff like wraps and massages with aroma therapy. They will also generally have a beauty salon to do hair and nails..

Ships have movie theaters, small but nice, and you can also see movies in your room. There are demonstrations on ship like ice carving, napkin folding and towel folding, cooking demonstrations. There are places on ships to play board games and cocktail lounges that feature a variety of music. There is usually a disco that starts after 10:00 PM each night.

Then there is always the pools. Some ships have more than one and the newer ships generally have an indoor pool as well as outdoor ones and all of these have hot tubs.

You need to take your normal toiletries and plenty of sun block.
You need to take swim wear, evening wear for dinner, shows, and the clubs, and formal wear for the one or two formal nights on your cruise. You need to take exercise wear if you want to do that. You need comfortable shoes for your tours, walking and the gym, and shoes for sandy beaches if you will go to the beaches. You can wear casual clothes on ship, except after 6:00PM they do not want shorts and swim wear in the puiblic areas like the dining rooms, show rooms, clubs, casino and disco.

Most cruises have food and shelter, so I suggest you to bring your clothing and water, water, water... that is if you want to save money, because liquids are costly on cruises (how they earn money)!!

Um, well just plan for all the food you can possibly eat, brother!!! Cruises are awesome...but too bad I got sea sick on my last one. Idk, pack a swimsuit, clothes...motion sickness pills, if you have a weak stomach, lots of spending money, a camera w/ lots of film, sunscreen, toothbrush...anything you forget you can probably buy on the ship.

large ship I am assuming?

Usually you will have a elegant night, so take semi-formal wear for one to two nights. Swimsuit, sunscreen, all hygeine, money (duh), camera, jacket (depending on where you go on your cruise), hiking boots (again, depending), extra film (very expensive in tourist towns), anything else I forgot that you already know about.

and if you get sea sick, take gingerale, bitters, or even morning sickness suckers.......always helps

Super glue, duct tape, ear plugs, wrinkle release spray. Pack your clothes in zip lock bags. That way you will have more room for souvenirs on the way home.
