If an atheist has no belief in God then they would have no belief in the ten commandments ( they would be just words) or any religious symbols they would be just objects. so why are they suing to remove all these things from society if there just words and meaningless symbols then why bother.
Or is it the fact that athiests want to do away with these symbols of God because they do not want to have to deal with the fact there might be one. sounds like the "there were no signs posted didn't tell me so why am i in trouble rule".......

I wouldn't mind if it was a pagen, muslim, or any other religon filing all the law suits but it's always an atheist. At least if the person had a faith of some kind it would make sense....

I agree with your theory. Athiests do not want to be reminded that they may just be wrong with their beliefs. Some people have no respect for the beliefs of others. They hate religion so let's get rid of everything to do with religion! I mean, are they going to start prohibiting religious symbolism in churches, temples, etc? I would not suprised if they did.
It seems that these individuals do not understand that some people base their whole lives on religious beliefs. Religion can do stupid things, yes, but those mistakes are made by HUMANS, not God, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, etc. People are comforted by religion, given strength and hope. When my grandmother died, I was comforted by the thought of her in a better place, free of being sick, with her husband and family; and that I will see her again one day. Maybe athiests feel so rotten about themselves that they see religion as a punching bag and scapegoat for all the suffering of humankind. And because of their hatred for those who follow religion, they want to punish and persecute them, make them suffer for all the problems that supposedly God puts onto the world. Maybe this is going to instigate a whole new kind of Spanish Inquisition.
Interestingly enough, athiests have a tendency to become quite religious on their deathbeds. . . ::Shrugs:: That's just my opinion. :/

O.k. would you like them to put up evolution everywhere?

See the truth is they complain that it is at certain spots, not that it's shown. For instance the ten commandments should not be at a court house. Since we have a law that seperates church and state that means a seperation from church and state. See you might see it as just words to them, but they see it as trying to push religion on people.

The truth is religion has no place in a goverment ran building. If we truelly are a land of the free we can respect this. If you don't understand this maybe you can understand why religion does not belong at a public school.

If religion was taught at a public school it would have to call it a therory. Since according to science God is still a therory. Would you want your kids to be taught that God is a therory.

The truth of the matter is Athiests are generally more accepting of other religions then other religions are of them. Think about it; how many Athiests try to push creationism to be taught in school? This would really hurt religion, but they don't. Why do you think that is?

No... it has to do with doing away with willful ignorance, and symbols of ignorance.

How is it that you conclude that the myths, superstitions, fairy tales and fantastical delusions of a small group of ignorant peripatetic Bronze Age goat herders benefits society? How do you justify the assertion that such drivel represents some fundamental objective 'truth' pertaining to questions of existence and reality?

The entire meaningful content of the Wholly Babble can be reduced to one sentence: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." The rest is just commentary.

Why can't you just do that?

In a sane world, if somebody was running around, regurgitating the insane drivel that you do, they would be locked up in the State Farm for the Funny. However... sadly... it seems that society conveys some sort of tacit immunity for mass insanity... which is precisely what the dogmatic belief systems pertaining to the Abrahamic god of derert monotheism (Judeaism, Christianity, Islam) is... mass insanity.

How do some of you manage to take logic and make some kind of brain soup out of it?

Not all the people that want the 10 Comm taken down are atheists... they are simply not Christian, and do not want our government governing them with a Christian influence.

There are billions of people in this world, and millions in this country that are of a religion other than Christianity. So, should we have the tenets of all religions represented on our courthouses, then? After all, you also need the signs so that when those religions turn out to be right, you can't say that there were no signs posted.

It all boils down to rights. Who has them, and who doesn't. It seems like in the U.S., and other predominantly Christian countries, if you're NOT Christian, you just have to put up with Christian propaganda no matter how uncomfortable it makes you, no matter if it warps your children, or even if it causes you physical harm.

As a pagan, I do understand the want to remove Christian symbols and propaganda from U.S. institutions like, oh say, the post office or a courthouse. Religion has no place in state, and vice versa due to how insanely dangerous it is to mix the two.

An example would be the Spanish Inquisition, and no that's not an extreme example, because throughout Christian history there have been many instances of Christian violence and abuse of power where connected with state. Westward expansion, Slavery, Salem Witch Trials, and now the persecution of homosexuals and that retarded war in the middle east are all testiments to this - and that's only in this country.

How would you HONESTLY feel if the roles were reversed? If Christians were the minority, and you had to send your kids to school and just put up with Wiccan rituals, or you saw excerpts from the Torah, Koran or Eddas in public buildings no matter where you went?

Come on.

Good question. But probably the right track, removing all these things would make their arguement stronger when they stand before God and say "well I was never told!"

because we don't live in a theocracy and by displaying only christian messages you are attempting to make it a theocracy. there are other laws made by other religions that never get displayed and if they tried the Christians would have a hissy fit and sue to get them taken down. they are so hypocritical of the whole thing its not even funny

Same reason that you would not accept living under Muslim or Hindu religious symbols. You'd say, 'That doesn't represent me.' Same theory.
