I have a 3 year old male tabby. He was neutered as a kitten but recently his behavior has been very bizarre. About 4 months ago I adopted a 1 year old female from the spca, she is also fixed, but my male cat is CONSTANTLY trying to mate with her! Why would he do this? It's to the point that I have to put them in seperate rooms at night because he's so tenacious, and she , of course could not be less amused, so they are bickering constantly and he never gives it a rest. Why, why, why would my sweet kitty be like this? help.......

Because he's a BOY! His little "parts" don't work anymore, but he's still a boy with urges. It will come and go, and odds are she'll smack the #(@& out of him to make him stop. Unless she's crying or really afraid of him, let them be for the most part, and tell him to knock it off whenever you see him doing it. If he's being aggressive, as in "bully mode", intervene a bit. I had a beautiful Balinese male who was the sweetest boy in the world, except every once in a while he would go into "bully mode" -- sometimes trying to mate my female or to bully his father. When he went after the female, it always ended up with her beating him up and he'd come literally crying to me with hurt feelings wanting "mommy" to comfort him. So, relax - it's normal.

It could be a domination thing. . .you male cat was the only pet for a while and he wants to assume authority. Also, it could be that even though they are both neutered, the male could possibly recognize the female as being female.

Because it's animal instinct to reproduce.

All of my neutered toms try to, at some point, have sex with my spayed female kitty.

It's just instinct, and the best thing you can do is squirt him with water when you see him trying to do it.

Think about it...a man with a vasectomy will still have sex with a woman whose tubes are tied, or has had a hysterectomy. It's just natural.

ok you said you have a male tabby? A tabby cat is female my friend, you can never have a male tabby cat. That's like saying "Oh I have a son daughter".

ARE YOU SURE HE WAS NEUTERED...OR FIXED? IT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
