..hmmm. Mate in the terms of a life partner or as some say a mate is a friend... My thoughts not much different for either interpretation of the word, so I shall ramble on...I can think of many people with a few good qualities. I can think of one particular person with many, many wonderful qualities. Being able to face your demons together and laugh about it later, fresh coffee in bed, being courageously honest when it comes to your self, and brutally honest when it comes to your friend. Give and take, and tears and anger and fishing and movies and the laughter of children. Red wine in a tent and biking in the mountains...early morning phone calls and late night comfort... But for all of these things to have meaning, they must be done with honesty and most of all freedom.

There is no such thing as a perfect mate. What would come close is some one that is honest with you from the beginning and will lay his or her cards on the table to know were you stand with them and were the relationship will go. A mate were there is great conversation between you two. A mate were there is compromise as well as a give and take attitude.
Some one that have realistic expectations as to what each is looking for in a relationship. Most of all trust your gut instincts and if some thing is not right talk about it and if things continue to go the wrong way.
Walk away and call it a day. For it is best to leave early when problems can't be solve than to stick around and the pain is more painful.
Remember you will never fully understand any one as some people do change when you marry them and the result is not always some thing we can live with.

There no such thing as a perfect mate. What qualities are in you that make you a good person to be with? When you answer that question then look for that person that has those same qualities.

The ability to get "in the mood" even when you've got a head ache or just want to go to sleep. If you give your partner sex whenever they want then you will be the perfect mate. If you want to be the best girlfriend or boyfriend, then you gotta do some other crap, but who cares about that.
