If you are over 16 years old, try to volunteer for a day or two at a vet hospital so you can see a little of what goes on. If you like it, then most states have a vet tech program at one of the colleges. You can find most of them online. Some colleges have on-line, or distance training programs that are excellent.

You can get this training at a vocational school many times (aka; technology campus or vo-tech) or at a junior college.

I would arrange a visit to a campus that has the course offering and speak to the instructors of the program and see if they can give you an idea of the day in the life of.

If you're squeamish...you may not like it.

I know in the Junior College I asked about it, you actually had a dead cat that you did lab work on (you will disect and all) all through your first year.

As an ex-911 dispatcher, I could handle it, but some can't. However, I am allergic to formaldehyde...the stuff they preserve the animals in, so I could not attend.
