I only saw one person there in the room. I regret I was rude, but do JWs not believe in an individual relationship with Jesus?

I came into the room and overheard her praying. Something like that should be obvious

I asked a legitimate question. I am surprised by the hateful responses of some who say they are Bible believers.

No. There is no relationship. There remains works and that is it. It is Jehovah that keeps track of works and chalks them up to you.
The Bible in several places says that we are saved by grace (an unmerited favor that you can do nothing to earn).

This story does not have the ring of truth, and seems mostly intended to demean Jehovah's Witnesses.

For one thing, Jehovah's Witnesses rarely say personal prayers in public. Their worship is between them and their Creator.

Secondly, when a Witness does say a personal prayer in public (such as over a meal in a restaurant), it is almost always done silently (because the Almighty can easily read thoughts).

Thirdly, when a Witness does say a personal prayer in public aloud, it is almost always because he or she is also representing someone else (such as a spouse or friend or child). In that case, it would be quite obvious why the Witness would pray using a plural pronoun.

Why might a person misrepresent a situation in order to portray Jehovah's Witnesses in a poor light? Interestingly, such "hatred" should be expected by true Christians in this time of the end, and it actually helps identify Jehovah's Witnesses as Christ's true disciples:

(John 15:19) If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you.

(Luke 6:22) Happy are you whenever men hate you, and whenever they exclude you and reproach you and cast out your name as wicked for the sake of the Son of man.

(1 Peter 4:4) Because you do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of you.

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

It seems signficant that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are the ones best known for their worldwide preaching work. Yet Jesus commanded that ALL who would call themselves "Christian" perform this public work:

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.

They say they believe in Jesus, but in reality they don't recognize him as God. They teach that Jesus is the archangel Micheal mentioned in the Old Testament.

The New Testament of the Bible clearly says Jesus was not an angel. Check out these verses from Hebrews chapter 1:

3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Heb 1:5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father’” ?

Or again,
“I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son” ?

Heb 1:6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”

Heb 1:7 In speaking of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels winds,
his servants flames of fire.”

Heb 1:8 But about the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.

Notice verse 8. God the Father refers to Jesus as God. Hmm. Mormons twist this verse to say that there are many gods, but the Bible makes it clear in hundreds (if not thousands) of verses that there is only one God. That's why Christianity teaches that there is only one God consisting of three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

I agree with sophie, mankind. JW's don't always say "we" when praying, obviously you can't hear them pray when they are by themselves or that would mean you were there...I'm not a JW, but i've been searching and if you believe in the Bible, they are the closest that comes to the truth, in my opinion.

JWs are the single most screwed up religion in the world next to Mormonism and Islam.

It's a mantra that is used to help brainwash these bible thumpers. Just like the public speaking ploy that Bob Dole employed during his campaign. Bob Dole says be weary of organized religion!!!

If the JW was alone in the room, how come you heard her?
You are not rude to ask this question but make it clear, please.
Witnesses are taught to speak in terms of "we".
Its less abrasive compared to 'you' 'you' 'you'.
Less confrontational.
Still, how do you know, if the person was alone?

No, they don't. They believe that they will only enter "paradise" by working hard enough for WatchTower Bible and Tract society. They also believe that only 144,000 people will get to go.

I'm not JW, but she was probably including You in the prayer.

Multi-personality?... Likes to imagine she is part of a group whilst also imagining she is talking to God?...Doesn't like to use the word "I" because it sounds too self-important and she wants to be self-effacing when imagining she is talking to God?...maybe all of those!
