Clausewitz (like Sun-Tzu) wrote his theories in a specific cultural and political context.

Each has their adherents who think that they are the 'final word' on how to make war. In reality we need to study them all and pick and choose what elements are relevant today.

One thing that Clausewitz did was he refined the art of war into a set of concepts called The Principles of War.' These concepts are something that can be applied to every historical battle and can be used to consistently predict the winner.

Clausewitz and his theories are obsolete and illogical. Try reading Sun Tzu's the art of war. The book is so good and accurate that every major military academy requires its students to read it.

The Vietcong used Sun Tzu's methods in Vietnam successfully. One popular one they used was "only fight battles you can win. If there is no chance at victory harass your enemy. Use hit and run tactics and crush his supply line".
