Why do parents bring their kids to restaurants and want others to entertain them?

Why do parents bring their kids to restaurants and let them just run around and bang on other peoples tables and try to get attention from other people and the parents don't even try to dicipline them or watch them or anything. If they didn't want the kids to begin with why did they have them? I believe parents should be required to attend a basic child care class and a basic child psychology class before allowing them to have kids.

It seems like many parents are reluctant to discipline their kids, and that is not good for the kids. I raised three children and I can tell you that more than once a couple sitting next to us in a restaurant has said to my husand and I that they were concerned when we sat down next to them with our three children. Then they go on to say how well behaved our children were. We would often joke about this and say to the them, "Well we threatened their little lives if they didn't behave," but the truth is, we have taught them how to behave. They are now in their late teens and early 20's . Each of the three kids always manages to get the job they go for because they know how to present themselves. If only today's parents were more worried about what their kids become rather than how they feel right at the moment.

Seems a little harsh to judge all parents from a few bad experiences. My husband and I take all four of our children to restaurants quite often and they never behave like that. Would you think it fair of me to group you in with all the easy, trashy women just because some are like that? I actually took parenting classes before I had my first child and guess what, it didn't help one bit. Having and raising a child is how you learn. Thats kind of like saying all students should attend a social skill class before allowing them to go to school. I do see your point, however, in the way SOME parents are. And to that, I have no answer.

I think you do not have any kids yet, am I right? It is easier to sit back and criticize when you have not been in a situation. All kids are different, some are better behaved. Sometimes kids are just having a bad day, like I am sure you do sometimes. My son will sit and eat his food and behave one day, and the next day it will be a complete struggle! What do you do? No kid is an angel all the time! (If they are they are probably doped up on Ritalin!) Maybe you need to give the parents credit for taking the challenge, and not doping their kids up like most people would do! (Not saying some kids don't really need it.)

As a pregnant woman/mother-to-be, I can assure you that I won't do this. If my child if feeling hyper, then I am perfectly capable of engaging him/her and going to dinner is probably not the best idea. I agree with you.

PS - If there is a basic child care class to take, sign me up! I'm scared!!

Yeah I don't like that either and they do the same thing in grocery stores.

They allow their kids to run around while they are shopping, meanwhile the kids are running into people and merchandise.

Because they are bad parents. I agree with you that parents should take classes before they have children.

Because they are incompetent, irresponsible, disgusting and selfish. Forget trying to change them......complain to the management and change your table.
