OK when my son is eating dinner he will eat everything on his plate and then he wants more food but HE HAS TO GET A NEW PLATE for his 2nd helping of food. If I don't give him a new plate he will not eat a 2nd helping. He says that he doesn't like the germs and the mess on his first plate......LOL. what is this all about????
thanks

He mostly learned about germs from school.....yes from home too but at school they are always telling the kids , oh my gosh don't do that you will get germs, go wash your hands, oh my gosh don't touch that, go wash your hands. don't share that "food, etc....." you will get germs, go wash your hands.

You know, I think it is slight OCD about not having things touch. My daughter does this. She won't eat bread if it touches anything else. Funny, huh?

how old is your son? if he's young then it just might be a phase that will pass. second of all where is he getting information about germs? next time tell him there isn't anything wrong with using the same plate because they are his germs and his mess on it...if not then just tell him to wash his plate and then get seconds. also...does he use the same utensils or different ones?

You gotta love kids, they can pick up so much information and sometimes they take it a little too seriously, he probably heard someone talking about germs and he just thinks of his plate as "dirty" after he's done with his first helping. It's a phase and he'll outgrow it, until then just humor him and get him another plate. It's definitely a funny story for us but I know it's probably quite frusterating for you:-) Good luck

how old is your son? does he display any other germ phobias? If so you may be dealing with a case of OCD. If that's the only one he displays. He just likes a clean plate. Nobody wants a second serving of mashed potatoes right on top of where a drooling pool of ketchup lays.

He could have the beginnings of OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Does he do some things repeatedly? (like washing hands or turning a doorknob?) Does he freak out if something's not where it's supposed to be or gets moved? It's something to look into - speak to his doctor. A combination of therapy and medication could help.
Good luck!

could be the start od an OCD.
See what he does when you won't allow him to get another plate. If he reacts like a normal child than hes just got a quirk about dirty plates, if he reacts strongly you may want to take him to a Dr. since plates arnt a bad thing but they can get bad, very bad.
How old is he? A lot of people with OCD it shows during puberty.
Feel free to contact me.

Well if he exhibits other signs of being afraid of germs in other places he could simply have a phobia. If he has signs of compulsion and/or obsession with cleanliness and order then he might have something along the lines of obsessive compulsive disorder. But if its just the plate thing then its likely just a quirk and I wouldn't worry about it.

sounds like he is not a picky eater, but don't like to eat good food off of a dirty plate. And if he has ate food off one plate and probably thinks now that he is done, the plate is dirty so he wants another one. Kinda cute though, I've never heard of a kid doing that before.

first i would have to ask the age of the boy.secondly where does he get the idea of germs who taught him about them.Kids are many times inventive but most things are learned behaviors. Its to ealry to dub it a disorder but if left unchecked could well develop into one.Giving in to childrens ideas isnt always a good thing and perhaps you should strive more to explain why he doesnt need another plate just to add more food. But i would think it best to trace where his fear of germs originated.Ill bet the answer llies close to home.

Seems as if he is a reasonable enough little guy. Can you reason with him and indicate to him that while his concern about germs is good and healthy, there is no reason for him to be overly concerned about germs on his plate. Unless of course there is something you aren't telling us...
