If you live in a house, make a lovely coffin for him with flowers etc., put him in there, and bury him in the backyard. You can make a garden up top - and every year he will fertilize the beautiful flowers.
If that is impossible, have him cremated if you can afford it.
If these options are too expensive, contact a vet college and ask if you might donate his body to science. It's just his old shell, in any case, so he will not be hurting.

I'm very sorry to hear that your cockatiel has died. I have had several parrots die, and it is always very hard not to have that good friend with you anymore. I have had most of my parrots cremated through a vet service. It costs about $60, and they give you the remains in a small box with a certificate. If your cockatiel had an ankle ring, they will give you that too. I put all the ankle rings on a chain that I wear around my neck for a while after my parrot has died, and I keep the box and the certificate. I then sprinkle the ashes in the mountains or another beautiful place, so that my bird can go and "fly" everywhere he would have wanted to, and so that I can go to that place and remember all the wonderful times I had with him. Saying goodbye to my birds that way makes me feel more peaceful than burying them, because I live in apartments and don't have any land of my own where I could go and visit their graves.
Also, if you think you can stand it, I would get another bird of a different kind soon. I have done this every time I have lost a bird -- not to replace the bird I have lost (because no one could do that), but to continue to have the kind of company in my life that only a bird can give. You will always remember your cockatiel. He or she loved you very much and was happy when you were happy. It's important to honor the things that our late friends thought were important (whether they are animals or people), and someone who loved you would always want you to be happy and have love.
I hope that, whatever your choice, you can find peace with the past and joy in the present.

First and most importantly, I am so sorry for your loss. It is certainly a personal choice as to what to do to honor him, but maybe you could choose to give a donation in his name to an animal shelter or bird sanctuary. A great resource to check charitable organizations is on the web at www://charitynavigator.org It's free to search and gives you many options. It's your choice if you'd like to bury him, but if you were able to bury him in your yard, maybe you would feel better knowing your sweetie was still near you. Best thoughts to you.

Of course bury him and put whatever marker you want on the grave. Or if you want, you could plant a bush or tree over him.

You should. You need to forget about the past and do the present. I always hate when animals die and you don't know it. If you get another dog, remember this: when dogs know they are going to die, they simply try to be alone. My mom said when she had a black lab, it always wanted to be outside like, a few days before it died.I hope you can get over the fact that he is'nt coming back. But you can go to him. When you die, you will see loved ones, and your dog will come running up to you in heaven. i always love to beileve that I'm going to See ppl i loved when i go goodbye forever and watch over people. So don't feel so bad, and that it's your fault over the years.

I would find a special place to bury him, a place that you can go to, to visit and talk to him if you want. Maybe plant a flower there.

I think I'd bury him. It just seems right to me to do that for a bird that you've cared for and that has been a good pet to you.

Honor him in the same way you would a family member. That's what he was, after all.
