My 1 year old Maltese gets really hyper when guests come over. When he is just around me alone he is perfectly fine. When guests come he nips, jumps, barks. He gets so annoying to the guests and me. I don't know what to do about it. Somebody please help! I am desperate! 10 points to the most helpful answer!

He wants their attention. Don't give it. Have your guests IGNORE him. Even when you yell at him etc, you are giving him attention which he wants. Ignore him and then when he settles down...then have your friends acknowledge him and REWARD his good behavior with GOOD attention.

You should train your dog to sit and stay when guest comes. Once everyone settle down and once your dog is calmer, then you allow him to go near your guest. Other then that you could always take your dog out for some exercise, dog run and get the energy out before guest arrive. A tired dog behaves better.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aULoH

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I wouldn't sedate her that just covers the symptoms. Dog obedience classes might help a lot because they would help teach her not to jump up and things like that Especially if you can get a big class. That way she gets to learn how to behave around other dogs and people. Also if she is only 10 months she is still acting like a puppy and will grow out of a lot of what she is doing.

well, i had a shitzu that did the exact thing and yes that is very annoying.with my dog i think she was like that because we left her alone for hours at a time. so, naturally they get anxious.so, i tried having some one with her all of the time, like a baby. take her out more often for walks around other people and dogs.so, she kind of gets used to being around new people and noise. and while she misbehaves while you have guests,i would put her in a bedroom or outside and she should learn that, that behavior is not tolerated. you have to be patient though it takes time but i think it will work for you.it did for me. goodluck.

Hes only exited. While the guests are coming, why don't you put him outside so he does'nt bug everyone. about 3 minutes after all your guests are in, put him back in. If it is only a few guests, when they come in, put the dog in a different room for a few minutes.

It may sound cruel, but a shock collar will probably do the trick.. We had really bad barking problems with our dog, but now when he has the collar on he is fine. We were really hesitant about it at first, but he has never cowered or whimpered with it on. It almost seems like when he gets excited he goes into a trance and this snaps him out of it....

I would just lock him in a room with food and water until the guests leave

Tell your guests to turn to the side when your dog jumps up, or to pay him no attention until he settles down. Tell him to sit...you may have to use a treat to coax him into it.

take a basic dog obedience class. They will teach you how to gain control over your dog and you can be the pack leader and not as your dog is now
