heres a couple of tips to keep you from getting lost:
1. trails built in the wilderness fork away from civilization. this means each fork is an arrow pointing to safety.
2. an analog watch makes a great compass. simply point the hour hand at the sun and north will be aproximately at 12, south at 6, etc.
3. in midwest farm country, homes and barns usually have windbreaks planted on the north and west sides, creating a big arrow pointing NW.
4. that big W in the night sky? the middle prong is an arrow which points at polaris, the north star.
5. In the desert, lush vegitation is found on north slopes, shaded from the sun.
