Wow, all of the above are excellent hotels:
Your Pacific Beach Hotel has that awesome aquarium and restaurant.
jerryl r's Hale Koa with it's location, military discount and entertainment is hard to ignore and is an excellent choice. Not to mention the Army museum on the premises.
Lynn's Hilton Hawaiian Village with it's immensity and diversity speaks for itself. It's also interesting to note that the Hale Koa and the Hilton Hawaiian Village are practically next door to each other.
My personal hotel of choice would go to Turtle Bay on the North Shore primarily because a) I like playing the two golf courses on the property, b) it has pools, restaurants and bars, and c) nightly entertainment. Can I afford it??? Now that's another question I ought to post on this site!!!

Turtle Bay on the North Shore, it is about 60 miles north of Waikiki in the country. Still has activities available, horseback riding, hiking ATV's helicopter, snorkeling, scuba etc. Call Kualoa ranch or go to their website for more activities. Kualoa is not too far from Turtle Bay. Several times a year there are awesome rock concerts at Kualoa w/100's of people. But the beaches are secluded. Way less people than Waikiki & if you want to drive into Waikiki it's only 1hr. each way. Dont' drive during rush hours, 6-8am & 4-6 pm, lots of traffic! Hilton Hawaiian Village (lots of shops & restaraunts nearby, & awesome beach)Halekulani is where I would stay if I could afford it. The Sheraton is inexpensive & right in the middle of Waikiki. The pink Palace, The "Royal Hawaiian Hotel" would be my 1st or 2nd choice, I've stayed there several times & it is awesome. Pacific Beach & Mariott are also good.

Hilton Hawaiian Village. They have several pools, a spa and a great shopping/restaurant village. Also, in the summer there is a great free hula show every Friday night by the pool, followed by fireworks. This hotel is actually ON WAIKIKI BEACH, not across the street or back a few blocks or anything, and the beach is very wide here. The beach is pretty small in front of the rest of Waikiki on the other side of Ft DeRussy (by Royal Hawaiian Hotel, et al) They also have a wide variety of room types and prices.

The Hale Koa. Military only, and the rates are hundreds cheaper than the hotels next door, even during prime season. Breakfast on the Lanai and drinks at the Barefoot Bar. After dinner strolls under Gus the Banyan tree. And their Luau is better than the Polynesian Cultural Center in my opinion.

Ko Olina Marriott for sure! The grounds are more beautiful than any others I've seen before. They have several man made lagoons that are perfect for relaxing and swimming. We have stayed all over Oahu, but we always end up back at Ko Olina on the West side of Oahu.
