I am, by far, no interior designer, but I think something with a yellow tint or a cream color would go nicely.

if you are going for a sharp contrast and something dramatic...try black. on just the wall that the couch is against and place a large mirror flanked by some candle holders, or find a large piece of art the could break up the black wall~this would create a huge focal point for a pop that will be an envy of those not brave enought or buy red couches and explore the wonder of color!

Choose a camel, not caramel color! Works great with red. It has some yellow, and some gold, not to mention some beige. The red will pop, but not too much. For a very modern look, use a white wall.

Wow....I would definately stick with neutral colours...but warm ones...try taupe...or a cream colour...nothing drastic as it will look garish....
